Let's be Honest: What bags do you like, but you're never going to buy/keep?

This. . . .it’s the first time DH said a bag was antithetical to my ‘bag goals’ (he hated the wicker, the overt branding — and yes, he’s also not a fan of my dior high tops either)
we then broke out laughing and I took the bag off

@lill_canele, @poleneinblack , this mini LD, though not for me, isn’t smooth leather or mature lol

It look so cute! Yes, definitely more fun and I'm impressed it has feet!
The price for a wicker bag hurts a little though haha.

I love Chanel and Hermes. But the practicality hurts me. The strap has no leather piece to break up the chain shoulder straps to give ease to your shoulder. The length hits me at an odd angle. I am 5'8" and it "rubs me literally the wrong way" meaning where it sits. Hermes leather is RICH and I love it, but getting into and out of a bag is a priority. Love a simple zipper or at least a clasp closing the top for security purposes. No extra bells and whistles needed here. If it takes me more than a few minutes to get myself into the main compartment, then my impatience gets the better of me. I will not carry a bag open wide.

On the "non-practical and making myself a hypocrite" side. I love an arm carry bag like a Speedy, Lady Dior, boston bag, satchel, or flap bag. Since I moved to Pittsburgh from NYC, if I have errands I will go by car. NYC was very walkable. I do not wear cross body bags as often anymore. In NYC just walking a few blocks doing errands, you needed your hands free for groceries, drycleaning, the cobbler, etc.

But what I do is check out are the many pre-loved designs on sale for Chanel and Hermes. A feast for the eyes. (Since I cannot NYC windowshop, this satisfies me! lol !)

I still like looking at online pictures and videos for the YSL LouLou, Celine Box bag and Celine Triomphe bag! But my list of reasons to not get them has not changed, so I just enjoy the eye candy. I really do love these designs, but I know if I don't enjoy using them I'm not going to reach for it, so there's no point in buying them. There are some designs that are just meant for me to look at and not to use.

I agree.

Anything over $4K. I've done it once in the past (Delvaux Tempete) and, while I adore the bag, I don't use it that often and don't feel very good about the purchase, in hindsight. I feel the same way about my one purchase above $3K (a new Celine Blade; I love it, but I can't imagine why I thought it was worth that amount at the time). Frankly, I'd probably find it hard to pull the trigger on anything above $1500 now, and maybe even over $1000. I still love bags, but there are a lot of other things I can do with my money, and a lot great bags can be found under these price points.

I feel like I've recently come to my senses :)

Preach! I've recently had this same "Aha" moment where I'm like, "These luxury prices are outrageous! Screw that!"

As for me, I've had my eye on the Pochette Metis for YEARS. I never pulled the trigger because I love it in monogram but my husband thinks that it's too flashy; he doesn't have a problem with my DE Eva Clutch though. And then of course there were tons of quality issues that I read about for a while. So both of those things scared me away and now the price increases have made it something that I just can't justify spending $2500 on for what it is, even though it does make my heart sing.

In my search of a different flap bag to set my sights on, I also fell for the Saint Laurent College Bag, but alas, same price point, although at least it's leather. I know the PM comes in empreinte leather but none of those catch my eye the way the canvas does. I won't completely rule out either bag because I have many purse loving years ahead of me and won't always have insane childcare expenses taking away from my fun money, but for now, I'll be enjoying my equally lovely contemporary bags.

Love everyone's perspectives! I personally think the YSL College bag and Pochette Metis would look incredibly bulky on me, but they are indeed beautiful to look at. Maybe one day your kids will get these bags for you as a gift! I know I and a friend have both bought nice handbags for our moms.

So I have a couple bags that have similar silhouettes and sizes as the College Bag and PM, and they're the perfect size for me. But of course different sizes work for different people!

I’m sure I’ll be able to treat myself to these bags long before my son would be able to do so, it’s just a matter of principle for me. There will likely always be better uses of my money, and I wouldn’t want him spending his money on me like that! But he is just a toddler so it’s hard to think that far ahead.

It's a matter of principle for me too. I definitely find myself happier when I appreciate what I have, and don't put such financial burden on myself. It seems reckless to buy such expensive things in this economy when I only make so much. We are literally living in a time where there's a baby formula shortage while the government is taking away women's rights to abortion and forcing women to have babies. Really scary. This is where social media can be good or bad. It's a way to enjoy lots of eye candy, but it can also put pressure on you to conform or match up to others.

I 100% agree! There’s so much going on in this crazy world and I’ve really been focusing on practicing gratitude for what I have (in all areas of my life). I actually think I’ve found “bag peace” with my latest sales and purchases. Each bag in my collection serves a purpose and brings me both excitement and joy to look at and carry. It’s been quite fun to hunt for contemporary alternatives to some of the luxury bags I’ve had my eye on. And the best part is that they’re beautiful, well-made bags that I comfortably afforded. And getting loads of compliments on them is fun too!

Like others have said, for me it’s the Lady Dior. I love looking at it in pictures, I tried it on and loved the look on me, etc. But I just can’t get past the unremovable bag charm. It’s too ‘precious’.

I love contemporary alternatives, please share your handbag collection and best finds! I don't care about logos at all, so I love looking for good quality dupes.

I love looking at the Lady Dior in pictures, but when I tried it on myself, I couldn't get it off fast enough. It looked like a granny bag on me! So ridiculous looking. The prices are also very extravagant.
