that's TOTALLY different than a marker on the body of the bag IMO

Let's face it. . .if Madonna did that in the 80s we would have all laughed and probably started writing on our bags. . .
I don't agree w/ this. I'd say the same about Madonna.
I like Gaga and what she tries to symbolize, and I think she's wildly talented.
But I think she's borderline trying too hard, she's starting to remind me of how Marilyn Manson is all about the shock value. Being that extreme all the time will start to burn out and desensitize.

I guess it's safe to say that Hermes will not be giving/selling her another bag. . . :p

I'd be willing to bet Hermes gets more publicity (read: business) from this than any amount of advertising.

And I can't speak for Hermes, but I know many designers will send or lend their bags/clothes/accessories to celebrities for FREE for the exposure and publicity. So not every bag you see on a celeb's arm was paid for.

I think Lady Gaga is averageness wrapped in genius - she's made it to the top of an over-crowded market by doing schtick, doing it better than anyone else, and doing it in a way that keeps our - the public's - attention without turning too many people off. She's far more whimsical and less "shock value" than either Madonna in her heyday or Marilyn Manson, IMO. I LOVE her image and strategy - she's done a great job.

You brought up a good point. . . I know that she likes to wear unknown designers to get them noticed. But then again, she does carry some amazing bags (Prada, Chanel, etc). Deep down she's just a bag junkie like the rest of us!!! :graucho:

she's supposed to be so shocking and edgy and not like any other. a question then. why buying Birkin at all? buy some edgy, cosmic-looking futuristic bag that noone else owns and be different, prove your point. i just don't get it. but it's her business, after all...

I feel like this is the equivalent of using marker to draw on your jeans when you were in high school. Except Lady Gaga doesn't wear pants, so she had to draw on her Birkin.

LOL

I understand how this may offend some people but realistically, I think it is just a publicity stunt. What's a 10K bag to her when she's making millions?
