I can't imagine any amount of tlc would restore the corners of the bag where the croc scales have been worn away to the extent that the soft leather underneath is exposed. Also the skin is separating from the lining inside the bag. These are significant defects which must bring down the price very significantly. Someone more knowledgeable please suggest a price.....

Hi Girls

Time is running out.......... I have to make an offer for the Kelly Croc very soon :confused1:
Please, could someone knowledgeable make a wild suggestion?
The seller has no knowledge and I want to make her a fair offer. Although, I have gathered from your comments that Kelly is in a pretty bad condition, after all.
Maybe it's not worthwhile buying? But I guess it all depends on the price? Or how crazy I am ?
Regards Yvonne

I'm very sorry I can't give you an answer. I recently bought a Croc Kelly Sport, 7 years old, for half the price it would retail, the bag is in excellent condition, no wear or tear. You will have to ask yourself or you would want the bag even if it can not be repaired....

Yes, it is a hard question to answer; the value of a vintage Croc Kelly, with only a few pictures to look at.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all Forum Members for their input on this thread.:smile1:

I will take all your valuable facts and thoughts into consideration. A few prices emerged;
1.The retail price of a new croc Kelly at about $22 000
2.The "sad" one from 1960 on ebay, which did not sell at $2440
3.The one in excellent condition auctioned at $6000
4.The renovated one from 1960 at ebay, asking $12000

I'm thinking now about $3000 may be a fair bid  considering the amount of repair needed and that some damage is beyond repair (corners)?

I will let you know what happens, regards Yvonne

Forgot something!
Also the lock and keys are mixed up. If my friend can't find the correct keys, the lock is useless? And it wouldn't look good with a new lock+keys, unless I could find a vintage set?
Or, I could use my elephant charm, of course ;)
Regards Yvonne

Hi again
Today I made an offer on the Kelly. I based it on the info I have gathered here on the Forum, with all your help, thanks. :smile1:
I also visited the most reputable fashion vintage shop in Stockholm and got their opinion on the resale value locally. They would offer about $1500 in current condition and estimated their resale price to be $2500. So that's what I offered.
Now, I will just have to wait and see for a couple of days. If I get it, it will go straight to Hermès for repair. I will let you know....
Regards Yvonne

Goodluck. I am curious as to what Hermes will say! Keep us posted.....:smile1:

Hi Girls

It's been a while since my last posting on this thread. Late May I returned the beautiful crocodile Kelly to it's owner. I made an offer and have been waiting for a reply since.

Now, the offer has been accepted :yahoo: and I will hopefully get MY Kelly within a couple of weeks. The offer ends up a little bit less than I mentioned erlier (I think I miscalculated the conversion rate). The price is $2150.

When I get my hands on it, I will take Kelly straight to Hermes in Copenhagen or Stockholm, for advice on repairs. And I am very prepaired to take it to Paris myself, if needed. What a lovely excuse to visit this romantic city. I will keep you updated, what happens.

There is still the problem with the keys and lock not matching. How will I solve this? It won't look good with a completly new set, I think. Any suggestions? Would Hermes be able to replace old missing keys? Does anyone know?

Finally, I hope you all are having a good summer, or Winter ( I used to live in Sydney for many years). Over here in Scandinavia we are drowned in rain!

Cheers Yvonne

yes mrsvintage hermes can sell you a new lock and keys or the clochette too, as far as damage they will not be able to repair those corners and cracks but perhaps they can clean it up a bit...for 2500 tho i suppose it is a good deal when you know what you are getting, congrats!!! there is nothing like crocodile from hermes!

oh for the keys and lock if you do not want a brand new one you could try posting to want it now on ebay for some one's old black croc lock and key, sometimes people replace them, i do not know what they do with the old ones but you could try.

Congratulations!
Don't worry about the lock and key situation. If you go to Paris try finding one at Les puces. It is the Flea market and it is huge. You probably can find an older lock and key set well priced. Hermes will let you know if wrapping the lock in croc would look awkward against the older croc on your bag. Either way you have a beautiful bag.
