Kelly 25 or 28

OP, what did you decide? My personal vote would be for 28. I have a 28 and it’s so small that I rarely use it, even though I am a size 00. I prefer stain over gold, but any of the combinations you select will be beautiful!
Lol that should have said, “I prefer palladium over gold.” Not sure how AutoCorrect did that one.

Yes, 28 too large for a formal party. I love my 25s and 28s. If I had to choose 1, it would be 25 as it’s perfect day to night for a broad range of events/social situations. A great shoulder or hand held bag. 28 can go into evening but slightly large if it’s a cocktail or dressy gathering.
Hi TPFers, your opinion for 2022 is much appreciated.

I’m invited to a higher end cocktail party at a nice house in the evening this coming holiday in December. We know the hosts well and other people are friends of the hosts.

Is a black Kelly 28 appropriate or too big in your opinion? I don’t have H clutches or other nice clutches at the moment; all the Chanel clutches are inaccessible to me now. I only have access to one clutch but it’s kinda crappy and non designer. Thanks!!

I think it's about wearing what makes you feel good and allows for a fun relaxed evening.
If you don't feel comfortable carrying your non-designer clutch take your Kelly 28.
Or perhaps between now and the party you could purchase another bag to wear for evening events (needn't be Hermes of course!)

Questions on the event itself:
- Is there a dress code for the event? If so, and it says "cocktail" or any kind of "formal", a 28 might be too big. If not, a Kelly 28 is good anywhere :)
- Is this a place where you will carry your bag all night, or will leave it somewhere in the house? If carrying, again, 28 might be too big; if not carrying, you could bring a steamer trunk.

In general I find a lot of people carry work bags to cocktail parties and fretting about your bag ends up being totally pointless as someone is slinging a Maxi Veneta or a briefcase around. But, if you want to, find a nice clutch (can be inexpensive, no one knows) that can tuck under your arm. What you will care about most in the end is 1) being able to juggle drinks and food and not worrying about your bag 2) how your bag complements your outfit.

IMO too big bc I find a 28 cumbersome if I am carrying a drink; a bite; and meeting and chatting. But it’s whatever you ware comfortable with. If you are close to the hostess, you can leave the 28K in her room if it gets in the way

I’m fond of clutches bc they can slide under my arm or lap. i used to think a wallet used as a clutch was horrendous, but these days i quite like a kelly longue wallet worn as a clutch. . .

ETA: its only early Nov. Is it possible thst you might stumble upon a suitable clutch while shopping between now and then?

Thanks :) I may casually look and see if something available catches my eye. If not, it’s ok too. The events I’m going to are all cocktail style at most, nothing too formal anymore. I’m relatively close to the hosts. They probably don’t care very much anyways haha

The advantage of the Kelly over a clutch is that you can actually eat and drink while carrying the bag on your shoulder. I think clutches are hard to manage at these kinds of parties since one is often standing and moving around. I will say that usually when we entertain at home I find that our guests often end up leaving their bags sitting in a quiet corner etc so would just bring it if it makes you happy! And if it goes with your outfit.

Hi TPF’ers,

I’m also deciding between a K25 and a K28. Read all your comments and glad this thread is back to life!

Hoping you can help me with regard to weight. I have a K28 that I usually use for travelling. Just got back from Europe and found it heavy (have a retourne). I usually put a small wallet, make up pouch (tissue, lipstick, balm, sanitizer), phone and passport. Sometimes 2 phones.

Is there a noticeable weight difference between a K25 and a K28 retourne? TIA!

Yes.

Another question! any thoughts on travelling with a 25? Might it be too small?
I usually travel with a 28. The things I can't fit in a 25 like a wrap/shawl, a water bottle, a mini umbrella, a Kindle - I can get a couple of these in a 28 along with the other usuals.
My calculation is generally that a 25 can take me out for the day if I don't need to be prepared for changing weather (the aforementioned wraps, umbrellas, etc.) or carry any serious supplies. But a 28 is much better and I rarely feel I need more room.
(All of this based on retourne; sellier 25 is a bit tougher IMO.)
