So then what am I supposed to call Kate Upton's assets, manly curves? Alien curves? What I said about her shape doesn't have anything to do with my thoughts on skinny women.
I dont have a problem with her body shape, in fact kudos to her for making it in high fashion! However, there are many girls more attractive facially than her with the exact same body. She has a bland (not striking) everyday face.
Call her curvy plain and simple .
In my reading of your original post you implied that ladies without voluptuous figures were less womanly.

I feel the same. Like Jenni Runk is one. I just love her but she's not as popular as Kate.
The same could be said for many models. There's various factors at play when it comes to becoming a successful model.
In the case of Kate I think it works in her favor that she fulfills another "beauty standard" blonde and buxom. She's different but not "too different"
I see your point... I think most models have very average (or below average) figures. I personally do not care for the tall, thin, straight shape of models like Kate Moss or Carolyn Murphy. I agree that Kate Upton's waist could be smaller, but otherwise I don't understand all the uproar. IMHO Kate Upton's face is average. Someone above used the word "bland" - but that is, frankly, what MOST model's faces look like. IMHO, for example, I find Kate Moss unattractive, but she's considered beautiful by many. But that's just my opinion, and I certainly don't run the fashion industry or a magazine or a swimsuit line.
I will say that I think the majority of people who are looking at & purchasing "swimsuit editions" are not exactly looking for the same physical attributes as women on TPF are.

Me either, but looking at the magazine I'm guessing her hair would have been all over the place if they hadn't aggressively pinned it back. The pictures are cute, I agree they're goofy and not particularly sexy, but that's why she's likable. They feature Target bikinis too, which is refreshing. I had to go through it this afternoon before my SO gets home and disappears with it.
I think the uproar is quite simply because men love her. I think lots of women are intimidated by a woman who is universally considered hot by men, not that they would necessarily admit this. There is someone on Irina Shayk's thread saying she is average looking. I don't know what planet she would be considered average on but I believe same reasoning applies. 99% of men would consider her hot therefore (some insecure) women have to find something wrong with her.I see your point... Men look at Kate and see a beautiful face, hot body, big boobs, blonde, looks like she would be fun etc. they don't analyze waist/hip ratios and whatever other nonsense women are picking her apart over.
Personally, I look nothing like her but this doesn't make me feel insecure and I have no reason to criticize her to within an inch of her life. I actually wish there were more models that looked like her. In think she is a refreshing change in a sea of super skinny, straight up and down figures, with deadly serious faces.
I have to disagree with you on this one. Not all women who don't find her model-esque are jealous. I actually find Irina Shayk to be really hot!!! I just don't see that hotness in Kate Upton. All the models, even though they look bland in real life they look great in pictures. Not Kate. Giselle Bündchen look average in real life but in pictures her body is banging and her cheekbones!!! Kate? Nope.
