Yes yes.. It was your story about walking in and finding your dream bag that inspired this thread!! So a big thank you and hope you are enjoying your Birkin.
i once saw a vert anis 30cm birkin at the Canton Road store in HK... was too small for me and not my color...
on another visit, i also saw a himalayan croc birkin at the peninsula, but this time, i could not afford one

In 2008, my husband and I were in NYC. We visited Madison Hermes but there was no birkin available that day. We then stopped at Wall Street and lo behold, we saw an SA showing a 30 chocolate ghw birkin to a gentlemen and his friend. The gentleman wanted to buy a birkin for his wife.
Fortunately for us, the friend convinced the guy that the birkin would be too small for his wife...and I walked away with my baby

here is my story:
i was living in brussels, just down the street from the hermes shop, literally just a few minutes walking away. i had already bought some small hermes items over the years but just one bag from that hermes shop.
after becoming addicted to this site (still am!) i was absolutely lusting over a birkin or a kelly but since i'd never seen one in real life, i wasn't sure which one would be more me. but it seemed like a "someday" type of purchase, and i figured it would take a few years before one could be mine. anyway, my SO got tired of me talking about it (which one? which size? which leather? which color?) and insisted we walk over to the store and inquire what they had in the shop for me to play with.
the whole way i was insisting, "no, they won't have anything, we shouldn't even ask, it's silly, it's too soon..." but secretly i already knew i wanted a black birkin 35 or 40 cm in togo or clemence with phw.
anyway we walk in the shop and it's packed and i just want to turn around and go, when my SO says, "hey isn't that one over there?" and sitting on the shelf was a 40 cm birkin black togo!!
anyway a lovely SA came over to help us, and i tried it on, plus he brought out a bunch of other bags including a kelly and really took the time to help me decide based on my use intentions and style -- it was definitely the birkin for me. well, you think that would be the end of the story but actually i'm a little silly and somehow overcomplicate things.
still, when my SO said, "let's get it!" i was like "oh no, i think i should think about it a while, this is not an impulse type of decision. i'm ready to wait a few more years while i consider it..." we said we would think about it and to put it aside, but being a Birkin he said he couldn't hold on to it. perplexed with my own reaction, we LEFT the store EMPTY HANDED and unsure if we'd come across it later!
anyway, we make it home and i am practically sick with regret.
my SO thinks i am crazy by now and insists buying it for me then and there. we call the store and in horrible french i try to explain to hold the bag for me, that i had just been there looking at it. he tells me, "madame, that bag has been sold, any birkin that makes it to the shelf gets sold almost immediately."
i was heart-broken! but, as we only lived a few steps from the store, my SO marched my butt up the street again just to be sure it was gone. the SA that originally helped me came up to us... and said he'd heard that we'd called. seeing my worried expression, he laughed and said the reason his colleague said it had been sold was because he was guarding it for ME!!!! yay! and without further embarrassing antics, we bought it then and there. and we lived happily ever after.

well, not quite... i totally went off to the orange side after that, but that's another story.

a few years ago, Buenos Aires H had 5-6 birkins on the shelf (I bought 2 of them). wall street H had an indigo birkin on the shelf, which I purchased as well. i've actually come across several other birkins on shelves at various H boutiques throughout the years, even a Himalyan croc B without diamonds! I think it's all about being there at the right time.

I have never bought any birkin on the shelf.... i got them mostly from the back...
But my husband has always been on the lookout for me. He has seen Black, White, Gold birkins on Madison, Etoupe Birkin in Copenhagen, Gold in Geneva and Orange JPG Birkin in Paris.
