Just discovered Frye bags

I saw the whiskey IRL. I think you'll love it. Look forward to seeing your reaction.

What's your feeling on the handles? Personally I'd like the double handles to be long enough to go over shoulder but it does have the long strap.

I'm going to Nordstrom today and I'm sure I'll visit these bags again.
I am not sure about the handles...they stay upright, which might be awkward when using the shoulder strap. One of the Zappos reviews references this as an issue. I guess we'll see! I loved several of the colors, so I am hoping that Whiskey is a good choice.

I hear you on the new to PF part.
Looking back at some of my purchases that I thought back then were such a great deal, they don't look so good now.
Completely agree with this...so many bad choices. I need to stay away from super structured styles, cross-bodies, floppy hobos, and flap closures. I really only like satchels and totes.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the color
I tried on the bag today at Nordies. It would be better if the handles folded down when using the long strap, but for me, I don't like to use a long strap anyway unless I have to. I tried the handles on my shoulder. They fit but tight and probably wouldn't stay on.

I don't tend to use the long strap on satchels either. I will probably hand carry or sling over my forearm. For work days, this will be fine. It doesn't work for shopping or when I need to be hands-free, which is generally just during my weekend errands. I am a satchel girl at heart. Always have been.

I'd say since you only use that long strap occasionally it shouldn't be a deal breaker that the handles don't fold down.
Look forward to seeing how you like it.

I broke down today and took home a Ralph Lauren bag. I'd been looking at these (after reading very positive comments about the quality on the Prada subforum). It's more structured than the Frye satchel but the handles seem to fit on my shoulder and it cost a lot less. I just couldn't bring myself to pay the FP for the Frye bag. Not that I don't have the money... guess I just can't stand paying full retail (and I have too many bags)

When do you get your new bag? I love that color; red was very nice too but I think in the long run that brown will be great.

Congrats! I have heard great things about the RL bags, and they look like they are really high quality. I hear you about the fp thing...it is so hard to do it. I usually track down most of my bags on ebay. I enjoy the hunt. I think Jenny will be here on Fri. I will post pics!

Jenny arrived! I will switch things over tonight and take some pics. First impression - love the color. The leather will scratch so easily...it arrived with a few scratches on it. Nothing serious...but this bag will definitely not stay pristine for long. I hope that it will wear in well and whatever scratches it incurs will just blend in.

Glad you like the color. I love that color.

I'm questioning myself as to whether I would have been better off paying the extra and buying this bag as opposed to buying the red RL satchel. But the handle issue would be the same with both bags. The Frye bag has the optional shoulder strap (same with RL). Both bags have handles that don't really fit on shoulder. RL handles do fold down when you're using the shoulder strap (unlike the Frye). Do the handles sticking up when you use the shoulder straps bother you?

Did u try rubbing the scratches to see if they would blend?
I think that bag is casual enough that I could probably tolerate a few scratches
On the other hand, you paid full price and it's shame it came with scratches.
I didn't notice any scratches on the ones on display at nordies.
Where did you buy it from?
Hope you'll be happy with it and look forward to pics.

Jenny's leather sheen's similar to logan messenger(discussed earlier in thread).
Saddle soap rubs out scratches--will see traces, but blend & look fantastic.
However, logan's owner noticed that saddle soap removes some of bag's dye, also--frye sells cleaning products, which should work better.

Congrats & enjoy new bag!

beautiful
love the leather and has outside pocket on both sides
So, I have been waffling on this overnight. I am returning it. I found a few more flaws and decided I want it to be in better shape if I pay full price. I found what appear to be water spot damage on the long strap and zipper tassel, and the whip stitching on the front handle is sliding around. The leather on that handle is not glued to the handle tube or something. The back handle's leather is anchored, but the front one is twisting around. I am going to visit the red one in person again today to see if it has similar issues.

The Artisan Tote is a keeper though. I absolutely love the color, leather, everything. Perfect weekend tote.

I don't blame you. For FP you should get perfect. Hope this won't cost you return shipping.
The tote is almost the same color, isn't it?
If so, maybe you do want to consider the burnt red for the satchel. I like that color too.

I returned it - no return ship costs. Then went to check out the red one at Nordies. The handle issue was the same. It seems like on some of the handles the leather twists around, and on others it does not. The red one on the shelf had a ton of fingernail scratches, so that will just happen to that leather. I am ok with that, just not when I receive it brand new. They also had the dark brown, which was gorgeous, and did not have as many scratches. The dark brown leather seemed slightly different...a bit more wrinkly and seemed like it had slightly more sheen.

I am going to enjoy my tote for a while and ponder the satchel. I will be in NY next week, and plan to go to the Frye store in Soho for some boots. I will revisit the satchel there, and hopefully can see all the colors at once.
