I watched a Hermès unboxing on IG yesterday and out popped a B and I was like uck, again?. I am quite sick of B's and K's. I then thought about how thankful I am that JD is now part of the high end luxury purse market and not only can compete with H, but is now doing it better (IMHO) with more unique styles and the highest of quality. There will always be room for some H in my life, not knocking the whole brand, but I do feel the B and K game has got to end at some point as they are too ubiquitous and people must be getting sick of the pre-spend. Now if JD would just stop raising prices so I can catch up and buy one, I would be thrilled.

Hermes in many ways doesn't have that distinction in the manner it did from yesteryear.
Many seem to think the challenges that H puts into play just don't seem worth it & perhaps
seeing up & coming designers thinking out of the box & inspiring new clients
with new innovations & creativity is the way to go now.. JMO

100% agree. I have been rejiggering my collection over the last year-ish, focusing on what works for me now and my general preference for under the radar. Most of my H bags are now in other hands - my "deep dive" into a couple of models was a fun chase, but they no longer suit me and I no longer care for (or have time for) the chase. (And H hasn't introduced a new model in over a decade that interests me.)

The recent posts about JD's customer service have exactly mirrored my experience with them (and my expectations that their level of personal attention will remain). I'm super excited about the new additions and look forward to my next 2 JD bags.

The matte lizard with tonal HW is sooo good!!!

Update on my L30 and a few other musings.... I was told Ramesh visited the atelier and was not happy with the handle on my bag. It is told to me they are "reworking" it and the bag should be shipping next week - or that is when the next update will be.

They really tout the idea that each bag goes through this "QC" process. In the past it was stated QC by artisans, with the L30 it has been told to me more than once that Ramesh has to approve and QC it. I was also told there were only 2 made at the time of Press Days, and I was securing the 1 for sale, the 1 shown in pics/videos was floor model/prototype...

Also, earlier after US press days in Cali the poster talked about how JD does not use words like "VIP/VVIP" - I myself commented to this stating it was refreshing. However, I knew I had read different from JD so I searched my emails and an email from Myriam (during Lumina's maternity leave) expressly invited me to a VIP viewing of bags before holiday or something. I know I am not the only one who recieved this email because a couple other tPFers signed up for remote appt, I could not sign up that time based on the time difference and avail appts.

so, what does any of this mean, nothing. I am just sharing what I know and opening up the discussion that education among brand employees/ambassadors/whatever is very important. Whether or not there is a stated VIP progam/list/etc or not, who cares? I do believe if they have a bag they will sell the bag, I also believe they will sell a bag even if they do not quite yet have it to sell....

thoughts?

I'm not surprised that Ramesh is heavily involved in the approval for the L30 - it's new and so the artisans are still perfecting its execution. I am guessing that once they have a few "under their belts" it will be less of a Ramesh-heavy process.

A lot of this sounds like how he ran the Moynat atelier. He knows what he's doing!

As far as VIP nomenclature for event invites, that's marketing/not surprising and doesn't necessarily translate to one's priority in a purchase queue (if there is one).

Thanks for sharing your images and intel!!!

Spot on. I am a marketing director and I find the overuse of click-bait phrasing AAF. I esp love when I get an email from a brand I have never bought from telling me I have early access as a VIP to this or that sale, lol.

Anywho, I just think that the nomenclature used in email marketing should be aligned with the words coming out of the brand representatives mouths, not too much to ask for when a brand is trying to build on authenticity, no?

Agreed! Although JD is using outsourced PR and probably other services, so some "slippage" that one might not see in one of the comparable conglomerate brands is probably bound to happen.

(And to anyone observing this exchange who finds my observations about conglomerates "triggering" - please keep your hair on and just ignore me rather than assume I am open to being re-educated. Thank you in advance.)

agree with @bagnut1 that it's because your L30 will be one of the first ones out in the wild, they want to make sure that it is representative of the ideal L30 they had in mind (because they expect pictures will be taken and shared in forums like this, your bag-loving friends will see it, etc). and you're very lucky (and I am jealous once more) that Ramesh himself will sign off your bag.

in other news, I looked at the website today and it seems like they have started to move stuff around. There's now a new intro video which features a very cute Diane L20, and the bags are now listed in a different order. I'm looking forward to see on the website the new Saint-Clair model with handle. I'm not a fan of the shape so far based from the pictures that I saw, but probably when I see it from a different angle, taken with studio lighting, I might have a different opinion.

exciting times for JD and fans!

🙏 I hope I did not come off as complaining about the additional waiting. I might have, but did not intend to. I am one who will say "I'm going to take pics and share" and then a week goes by with no pics taken, lol. I was giving an update mostly on why I had not,
And yes, I do realize I am fortunate that Ramesh is putting hands on my bag...it is exciting to have the first in the wild.

FWIW: a poster talked about how we in this thread have been drinking the social media Kool-Aid about the brand and heritage, but....I am not on social. I have a profile, I have to so I can keep track of my employees on business accounts, but - I do not doom scroll, I do not look to social for how to dress/talk/behave/etc...I have always been unapologetically me, just an "old goth" who was over the moon when a black bag had SHW and a spike closure, LMAO
