šŸ™ I hope I did not come off as complaining about the additional waiting. I might have, but did not intend to. I am one who will say "I'm going to take pics and share" and then a week goes by with no pics taken, lol. I was giving an update mostly on why I had not,
And yes, I do realize I am fortunate that Ramesh is putting hands on my bag...it is exciting to have the first in the wild.

FWIW: a poster talked about how we in this thread have been drinking the social media Kool-Aid about the brand and heritage, but....I am not on social. I have a profile, I have to so I can keep track of my employees on business accounts, but - I do not doom scroll, I do not look to social for how to dress/talk/behave/etc...I have always been unapologetically me, just an "old goth" who was over the moon when a black bag had SHW and a spike closure, LMAO
I did not think you were complaining at all. I just read it as a bit of confusion on your part and you wanted some sort of assurance. :flowers:

I am on instagram but it's private and I rarely post about bags because people who follow me are mostly my friends from the tech world who couldn't care less about purses. lol
I also think that that person conveniently missed the part where we collectively said on this thread that we couldn't care less about where 1754 or JD's invented history comes from, so I don't know what Kool-Aid drinking they were referring to.

Cheers to us then, and not with Kool-Aid!! šŸ„‚

I always appreciate y'all's input and assurances! šŸ™

The "heritage" and marketing are actually not the main points. Yes, it“s off-putting (at least for me), but my point was mostly about the quality for the price. Youtubers can claim all they want JD is in a god tier and beyond every other brand. These claims cannot be sincere, as the quality is objectively inferior to quite a lot of brands.

Note that JD hardware is gilded and not gold-plated (by electrolysis) like H and Co. JD bags are basically 50% hardware and these thinly covered gilded parts will ā€žpatinaā€œ into waste A LOT faster.

How bag connoisseurs of this forum can put up with this and other quality issues at such price levels is beyond me. But of course there is a market for everything, so if you can justify these prices, please go for it. Especially the ladies who don“t want to be educated should treat themselves to the max!

I don’t watch YouTube, sorry, not of that age group.
Also, who is Co? I don’t know that acronym.

And while we are discussing quality: I’m one who got a poorly done Birkin 30 from boutique in 2022. They sent it to ā€œspaā€ for me and expedited the repairs but it was still sold to me with flaws and those flaws aged the bag over normal wear and tear quicker than it would have had it been ā€œperfectā€

I think the price is equative to the quality you get, and think the quality is objectively superior to quite a lot of brands. I also did my research for the things I care about, so I feel educated about my decision, so far as the topics that I personally care about. There are plenty of reasons why I went with JD for my purchase a few months ago and not other brands.

That doesn't mean that I don't think you are sincere in your beliefs and feelings about the brand, either. Your thoughts and feelings are valid! If there are things that don't speak to you or displease you, then I can certainly understand why you'd not be interested in getting a JD bag at this time.

But I'd like to think we're all interested in seeing where this brand can go, and how it will develop over time, yes? I appreciate the design and sophistication element of the bags - and Ramesh's work tends to speak to me on a general level. I personally hope they keep the Diane clasp as a running signature as they grow and expand their offerings.

I am in my VERY early 60's, LOL, and have been buying designer bags since the '90's. I have had a large collection over the years. Back in those days you could just walk into any boutique and buy a bag. Hermes, Chanel, Gucci, etc. The point is I bought quite a few bags before bags were such a big thing. And my friends thought I was nuts to spend so much money on such a utilitarian item. HA! Now they see the "light". Anyway, my long winded point is, I have never seen the quality of bags I saw at the JD trunk event. There is no comparison out there on the market IMO. And I was also just in Paris doing a lot of window shopping and looked at a ton of bags. And again, the quality was not as good as JD. For the most part, not even close. Quality wise and construction wise the bag that really blew me away was the new St. Clair. It was an engineering marvel. They were all really good, obviously. Just wanted to add my thoughts as I consider myself a bit of a bag "expert" (as most here are) with decades of experience, including multiple H bags, and JD wins the quality race for sure.

I agree 100%!

I too have been buying bags for decades, luxury brands for two of those, and I have nothing but admiration for JD's materials, quality, design, and complete craftsmanship.

(There's a reason that I haven't changed my avatar in a while - this bag _really_ is an utter joy to carry.)

The jewelry of the Diane is listed as "gilded and engraved brass" on their website in the details. I personally prefer brass over the gold-plated alloys commonly used now for GHW. Brass will at least patina. Other alloys, not so much.

yes but I think they're just being lyrical because when we take the literal meaning of gilding, it means applying a very thin foil over something and using an adhesive such as glue to make it stick, which is not really done to metals or other things where there is rubbing/friction involved. it is done, though, to other materials such as wood or paper for picture frames, or ceiling of a room, etc.

gold plating using an electrolyte solution is the way to cover metals with gold.

in another part of the website we can see this:

so I'm really curious where the other poster got the information that it's "gilded and not gold-plated (by electrolysis)" and that JD bags are "50% hardware" whatever that means.

TBH: plating/gilding - very little difference:

Gilding is applying a thin veneer of a metal (usually gold) over a 'lesser' metal, usually by ā€œrubbingā€ (as in gold leaf). Gold plating is an electrostatic process where gold is attached to a ā€œlesserā€ metal using electric current to make the object and the 'gold bath' into an anode and cathode, as it were

If you really want to "geek-out"
