I think you can Special Order it with palladium hardware and contrast stitching. You wouldn’t be asking for something crazy, they have all the materials to make it like that. Ramesh would have to approve it but I think it could easily be done. I think some people in the forum have asked for special orders but not sure if they went through with them.
I agree.

But I want to see it made first, see if it tones down the bling factor of the hardware.

Plus I already have a special order in mind. I haven’t paid for it yet so I cannot say much about it, but I have talked to customer services and they said it can be done :graucho:

Random musing: I just realized why the barenia Diane (Diane L20/L26 in Châtaignier) doesn't make my heart sing even when I am obsessed with barenia.

The "convention" for barenia bags has always been with off-white/cream, contrast stitching.
Hermès:

Meanwhile, Joseph Duclos:

Ramesh Nair, who has worked for both Hermès and Moynat, knows about this and has actively gone against the "convention". Maybe to really give the Diane a formal, jewelry look. He doesn't have an issue with barenia having contrast stitching. It appears on the Saint-Clair messenger, which is more of a casual bag.

I guess what I'm saying is that when the Diane L20/L26 in Châtaignier comes with contrast stitching (and matching palladium hardware as default), I'll finally consider a Diane.

(I know JD people read this thread so this post is kinda like my entry for the suggestion box  )
I personally prefer the tonal rather than contrast stitching, regardless of which leather. I’ve also moved away from “horsey” style bags so perhaps it’s related.

True. I think the contrast stitching on fauve/chestnut/cognac barenia is a nod to saddle-making which ultimately is a reference to Hermès.

I’ve been staring at your very interesting post comparing barenia offerings and I wonder if the addition of contrast stitching on the Diane might turn out to be over the top. All of the other barenia examples have more subdued closures, and the contrast stitching doesn’t seem to fight those clasps for attention.

Yeah, it could also be that Ramesh thought it would be too busy (or actually made a prototype and saw it was too busy), because the Diane has the ornate closure and wide brace.

Good point!

I like what Duclos has done with the Diane bag. By keeping the stitching matching the leather colour, it gives a different look when compared with the tan Celine 16 bag, which uses contrast thread (although, interestingly, the other colour Celine 16's use matching thread).

I like variety, and Duclos is providing it.

Is this Celine bag a new design? (I don’t follow Celine closely.)

True. I think the contrast stitching on fauve/chestnut/cognac barenia is a nod to saddle-making which ultimately is a reference to Hermès.

Historically:

White contrasting stitching on tans and browns (sometimes blacks, russet reds and natural) is basically code for country pursuits: riding, shooting, fishing, hunting, not just saddles. Let's remind ourselves, exotics were daywear only too.

Tone on tone neutral leather was for the city or 'dress'.

In contemporary times, white stitching on mid-neutrals has masculine/unisex overtones because it suggests (expensive) sports and the leather looks in-keeping with patina and use.

The Diane L20 in Châtaignier with a noticeable patina
This is probably from the window display since the patina looks one-sided and slightly diagonal

I couldn't help but imagine this would look so great with contrast stitching (and palladium hardware), since tonal stitching is starting to look lighter anyway where the bag darkened. But that's just me :P
