Love this list so much. We have very similar taste! I see you on the Moynat thread too. If you had to pick a favorite... Moynat or Duclos?
Two great minds? Thank you for the bag choice compliment.:flowers:
I love old Moynat (Limousine, Ballerine, Duo tote, Luggage, Pauline, Gabrielle, Gaby+). I loved their MiF craftsmanship. It was a family owned company.
I like the new Moynat bags. I appreciate them, but won’t buy. Maybe they look too youthful for me, the sizes are too small for my needs, or the straps are too short for crossbody. And now Moynat is owned by LVMH.
Mind you, I think Moynat is wonderful, but if I had to choose between a $5K/$6k-SO Gaby pm, or a $3.5K Fontélie, I’d go for the Fontélie.
JD hardware is fresh, the leather is yummy, and through my purchases, I’m promoting a new (1754:lol:) company. I also adore Ramesh — I know him to be a kind person, and a good businessman with a creative gift.
Let’s see what Moynat’s Fall 2023 has to offer, but I doubt my wishlist will change. I have finite funds.

Your bags are such great picks and colors. One question, are we all supposed to get permission to repost bag pictures from their website? I had assumed it was always okay to do. Thank you.
You’re so kind. I appreciate your comment on my bag choices.
If I want to post something from a website, I check the company’s legal notice tab, first — wanting to respect their intellectual property. JD’s legal notice is explicit.
Ninety-nine-point-nine percent of the time, the chance of retribution is minuscule, but I ask a company rep, anyway. It protects TPF, too.
Usually I get the response, “Go for it.”
Well, I got the “Go for it,” for JD posts to our TPF threads. So, post away!

Thank you. I learned something new today and will, of course, honor the legal fine print on their website moving forward. I never even thought about it before. And I agree with your other comment, for the price I would go with a JD bag and skip the Moynat (that I too love, but I think JD is a better value).

I’m weird when it comes to legal stuff. I annoy my DH, when we buy big ticket items. I read every line of every paragraph in agreements/contracts.
I must admit, I’ve found loopholes, and saved us unnecessary fee $$$. JD funds?!?!:graucho:

Just learned about this brand last night. I placed an order for the 20cm Diane in Slate this afternoon. Should get it before the end of June!

Just a FYI, if the bag you want is out of stock, try their chat feature on the website. The website wouldn’t let me checkout this bag because it was out of stock. I reached out on the chat feature. I got an email about 20 min later from their Digital Manager, Lumina. She provided me with a pre-order link and I was able to checkout. Delivery, of course, will be a few months.

I’m wondering if I should have ordered one of the passementerie straps but I think I’ll wait until I receive my bag.

Looking forward to see what Ramesh does with this new brand!
Thank you for the ordering info.
The Fontélie bags are sold out — except one in taupe. Preorder in this style is approximately three months out.

personally I prefer the shade of blue on the Heritage leather, just because I like that pop of color on a small bag. but I can see the one in Harmonie would go with more outfits because of its neutral tone.

Me too.

All the stars aligned* for that Bleu de Cocagne** Heritage leather Diana

*Align is my word of the week (since a colleague used it yesterday and I've stolen it t use in every sentence).
** "Cocagne” refers to French traditional use of woad as a dye, a colour used for nobility (only). The natural blue was extremely costly. France has a tradition of dyeing with woad, especially around the city of Amiens (Picardie region) 11thC. :yw:

NB: One only gets footnotes on the the Duclos thread

I always assumed 'youthful' items were something that older people bought from fear. When I was a younger, I never gave any 'thing' a seconds thought on age-appropriateness, it was always the same 2 questions of "Do I love it?" & "Can I afford it?".

I used to like Moynat. Now I can see what they (or rather LVMH) are doing - and I hate to be able to see the 'wires' in luxury. Either you're a heritage brand - or you're courting 'flexers'.

JD may not have started as a maroquinerie in the 18C but it seems less compromised than many so-called lux brands.

Ive read a blog by the leather crafter. She went to joseph duclos store and noticed that almost each and every bag on display have scratches. That worries me. If i order, I might receive one with scratches.
Heritage leather will scratch and patina. I think we have all been brainwashed so much by a lot of the big brands not to like the smoother leathers, but the reality of it all is, smooth leathers like heritage leather of Duclos, barenia/swift/box/tadelakt of Hermes are the leathers that have the least amount of finish to showcase their exceptional quality. Caviar leather of Chanel for instance, is heavy graining and coating to mask all the natural imperfections (a lot of them) of the leather they use. The quality is much, much lower. Leather is categorized by its flaws and the less flaws they have, the more premium their classification. Tanneries won't coat those leathers heavily unlike the ones with lots of marks. It's like a person's face -- why use foundation and concealer on your face if your complexion is flawless. Natural beauty is so prized today, which is why beauty companies make loads of money -- to help enhance beauty for peeps who don't have flawless complexion (haha I spend on foundations and concealers for this same purpose).

The beauty of the heritage leather and those other leathers i mentioned from hermes is this -- it is the best quality of leather, it will age so well. 20 years on, the leather will patina but the bag will still be in excellent shape. The beauty of it all is, the bag will grow with you, together! I love this idea and more importantly, it has given me a much deeper appreciation for premium quality leather at its least "processed/coated", more "natural" state. Hope my explanation somehow helps ❤️
