Thank you, the bag is on its way back to them now.
Hi @lurketylurk: could you share your experience with JD re sending the bag back to FR? Did you use DHL? Did they send you a return label? Did JD send you a new bag or fixed it and sent the bag after the repair? I am undecided on a tote I just received on Friday eves in a flattened condition with couple of marks on the handles. Thank you for sharing.

How do I reshape this bloody tote?

- Stuff it with towels or shawls?

- I saw a youtube video of a woman using steamer to reshape her Chanel tote.

I am complaining because JD should have stuffed it with more packaging and sent instead of flattening it. Ruined the bag imo. I was imagining the bag to look like this (please see attached) when I carry it 😁😁😁 not gonna happen, is it?
Oh wow! I totally get your disappointment at receiving your bag like this.
I have had a tote (not JD, but leather) crushed like this by a friend who borrowed it & put it in her suitcase for travel :frown:
I would suggest stuffing your tote with a shaped cushion / or soft packing paper/ or bubble wrap that fills out the bag without stretching it out of shape. Open up the side buckles so that the stuffing fills up the bag nicely. This will help the creases to fade away, you can leave the bag with the stuffing inside for a few days, and I’m sure the bag will get back its slightly rounded shape in a bit. Taurillon leather is quite supple & springs back after crushing.
I wouldnt steam the leather unless you’re experienced, because it could affect the grain or the structure of the leather, making it limp if over-steamed.
For what its worth, the scratch on the handle looks like a nail mark due to handling, it will fade away in next to no time. Try rubbing the scratch with your finger, it should start to disappear already.
But I would definitely take up the packaging issue with JD, its upsetting to say the least. The flat cardboard shipping box is a cost-saving measure which is totally not justified.

Hi @crocodilemonkey: thanx for replying and understanding and validating my disappointment with tips. I have not stuffed the tote or rubbed the scratch mark + scuff mark or steamed because I am undecided on keeping it. The JD team just emailed to offer an exchange or refund. I might pick exchange. In the end, JD is a business. I forget this often because I put Ramesh Nair on a pedestal. Lame! Thanx again for the tips. Useful for other bags. Dont know you but love you :) x

Hi @bambita, good call to go for an exchange. Happy to share experiences & tips when I can.
Yes, JD is a business and as a client you are entitled to full service, sometimes we forget that.
For me too, Ramesh Nair is a big part of the motivation to go for this brand, and I’m sure his influence extends to the designs, the materials, the make & quality. But there’s other people on the business & retail side and they should understand that the same level of care & attention that goes into the make of the bag should follow the sales, shipping, etc.
Thank you for not settling for less, its a valuable lesson

I'm sorry to hear you've had this issue. I can't recall what carrier I shipped it back with - probably DHL. They sent me a return label so it would have been whatever carrier they chose. They did not send me a new bag. I had to wait for the original bag to be repaired. It took about a month, if I recall correctly. In hindsight, I wish I had asked explicitly for a new bag.
Personally, at the prices JD charges I would not be OK with receiving a flattened/damaged bag! I hope they remedy it for you.

I’m so sorry about the shape of your tote. I received a tote in a flat box. It came out perfect, but I returned it immediately because the plastic wrapped, rounded handles would not stay on my shoulder because of the shape and my shoulder’s slope. It was a mess of a return with DHL, but JD (Lumina) was amazing.

It’s my understanding, because of international shipping, the shipping companies or customs may open parcels. And I’ve noticed with shipments from other EU stores, my boxes have been damaged, resealed poorly, and a couple of times my item has been mashed on a corner.

The misshapen tote and the scratched flap bag with a tiny dot might or might not be JD’s fault.

Hi @Mousy: DHL custom clearance/import/export/tax ID etc is definitely is a big headache. Agreed: Lumina has been amazing. She is helping me out too. NGL it was probably DHL's handling of the tote that made a scratch on the handle. Pretty lame!

I wish you received a new bag. I hope you are enjoying your bag regardless. In my case, JD organized a DHL pick up which was convenient. I did not have to drive to Chicago. JD specifically wanted me to repack the bag the way it sent to me: flat and crushed. They did not want me to use a bigger box. I was kind of surprised but I did what they requested. Now it is on hold at customs again. I just could not keep the bag. If I had kept it, I would never buy any JD bags again.

Also, I have a feeling JD might not send me a new bag either because they are waiting for the tote I returned to get to them first before they send me an exchange piece. Who knows what they will do? I have no control over it. Either they will send me a new one or they won't. They are saying that their logistics department is researching a way to package the tote so that it wont be flattened. Can it be that hard? They could use a bigger box and stuff packaging material inside the tote to NOT flatten and crush it. I will try to buy JD bags in person only from now onwards. Every niche brand is so lovely in the beginning and then they go the Moynat way or the Moreau way. Or the Chanel way for that matter. Fingers crossed for JD.

1000% agreed. Definitely a valuable lesson learnt through this experience. And NGL such a big headache. <3

My concern would be that JD would try to correct your issue with the bag & just resend it.
Perhaps sending the bag in a bigger box increases their cost of shipping.
In any event, that bag should be packed securely so that it should not flatten in shipping
JD should have enough experience in shipping that size bag, JMO

Yeah looks like it. JD did not have an issue sending the boxy St Clair messenger bag in a proper cardboard box in 2023. No issues. Came in a pristine condition. They are probably used to shipping their totes overseas flat and crushed in a thin flat cardboard box and customers simply accepted them. Who knows?!!! I feel like we customers have to set a standard for these luxury business houses what is acceptable and what is not. They know we are bag crazy and that we will pay for bags no matter what. Blah blah blah. Will update when all this is over. Thank you and wish you a lovely weekend.

Hi @lurketylurk: I have a quick question for you. When you sent your bag back through DHL, did you pay the duty or did JD pay? DHL called me and asked me to contact the consignee to pay the duty of 120 euros, which I just did. Just curious. Thank you for answering my question. <3

I finally got my Diane L20 today after a long saga trying to get it cleared through customs. Shout out to @bambita for answering my questions and giving me tips on how to reach anyone at DHL. I still had to do a lot of back and forth with emails. Lumina and Crizalyn at JD were such gems and very helpful.

I am in love with this bag. The craftsmanship is just 💋 chef's kiss💕 Already scheming to get my hands on a Diane L26 or Messenger Heritage leather. I agree, next luxury purchase from JD will be at their atelier. US customs and DHL handling can be such a headache, although I would say, nothing beats the excitement of unboxing a luxurious item I have only seen online. 😻
