Hi:

Anyone here has any experience of exchange or return with JD?

Third JD bag but this time sadly received a piece with (im pretty sure a display piece) scuffed handles with a scratch mark and a dot. This is unacceptable but I dont want to go through the hassle of sending it back from the US to France and back. DHL had me send them irs 1040 with social security number on it and it was a headache. So received this yestday after the whole custom clearance BS.

Infuriating considering I requested that they send me a new piece that was not on display.

Also disappointed that JD would be so negligent and careless.

Am I overreacting?

I have the same tote in a different color from 2022 and I had bought it in person so handles had no marks nothing.

What should I do?
That's disappointing. I'm sure if you return it they will make it right. But only you can decide if it's worth the shipping headache.

The scuff looks like it will come out - the dot I'm not so sure. You could also just keep it and know that the first "ouch" has already happened so you can just enjoy the bag without worrying.

(I had a similar dilemma on a little Prada bag last summer that would have been a total pain to find another in the US. I kept it and honestly completely forget and don't notice the "flaw.")

I think it's not worth the hassle of sending back to get a replacement, especially since it's the handle and they're so small they will blend in anyway due to carrying the bag (with the hand's oils, etc). In a year or so you will forget that it was there, if it's not yet blended in by the patina.

It's probably my age but small things like this, if it had been me, I'd pretty much ignore it.

For what it’s worth, they explicitly told me (more than once) they do not sell pieces on display even if it’s the last one.

I asked once because I preferred the piece on display (the one year patina looked better haha) and once because they told me there’s only one left so I asked to examine the display thinking that was the last one. Both scenarios it was clear they don’t sell on display.

Not sure if this applies to exotics though.

I can’t tell in your picture if the bag is heritage leather but if it is, there’s always marks on fresh out of box bags, it’s the nature of the leather when it’s being handled.

Hi there: its the Legato leather tote so I dont think its heritage. No I understand what you mean by patina and loving the development of patina. I just feel like the sharp vertical scratch is...ughh.

Also, what is upsetting me more is JD flattened the leather tote and sent without a box and its super creased. And because its leather (unlike their suede/nubuck tote I have), the shape is...I will upload pictures and show yall...

I should have just waited til next year and bought in person. So in 2022 the suede tote was 2600 and I thought since they are increasing the price in Feb 2025, I just thought I would get it now. I wont be going to France until next year. Also coz the Legato tote looked so good on their IG reel. Dumb me!

Re JD not selling display pieces, (I am not into Diane so I dunno but I do like their totes and boxy crossbody bag), its not true: when I was at the JD flagship store in 2022, the SA tried to sell me the tote on the window display. I had to tell her that I wanted a fresh piece and she did. Come on, JD doesnt sell like hot cakes like Hermes/Chanel and SAs can be pushy at the store. Its a business. I do love JD and Latifa and all the SAs there. I think now that it is always better to buy in person. Lesson learnt!

Yeah the hassle of sending it back is...godd tell me about it...for the life of me, I cant seem to flatten the leather tote like JD did to fit back into the packaging they sent...

Yeah its in the handles and they are not grained leather like the body of the tote is so the marks are not visible. I just expected nothing but the best from JD coz of Ramesh Nair.

So if you are worried about price increases (as am I) , buying in person gives you access to EU pricing as well as VAT return (they do 12% not 10% like H) so any price increase would be offset.

You also have the option of purchasing remotely, and then coming to Paris to pick up whenever (and still get the VAT refund and EU price)

Thank you @bagnut for telling me your experience. I feel a little better hearing it from you but I am still a little upset. Also lets see what the JD team says on Monday and I will decide then.

In case I decide to keep it, any tip on how to re-shape a leather tote? I will post pictures later and you will see what I mean. I just dont get it why they had to flatten the tote like a photo frame and send it without a box. Cost cutting may be I dunno what they were thinking. Lame!!!

Thank you...never thought about the second part...that way the tote wont have to be flattened for them to send it...great idea...

I think JD should increase the tote price considering their quality and craftmanship...the Row is charging 16000 for a suede Margot and I dont think its even leather lined 😂

Thanx for talking to me I feel less upset 😘

How do I reshape this bloody tote?

- Stuff it with towels or shawls?

- I saw a youtube video of a woman using steamer to reshape her Chanel tote.

I am complaining because JD should have stuffed it with more packaging and sent instead of flattening it. Ruined the bag imo. I was imagining the bag to look like this (please see attached) when I carry it 😁😁😁 not gonna happen, is it?

If you have an handheld steamer, you can try stuffing your bag to the desired shape and then steaming over the creases, like this:

I can’t believe the bag arrived so unceremoniously. I am so sorry. The “hinged” Joseph Duclos boxes are so nice - I feel that they are an important part of the JD purchase experience. I don’t blame you for feeling rather deflated when you received your flattened bag in nothing more than a seemingly crushed and weathered shipping box.

I recall many of the fashion houses shipped merchandise without boxes during the pandemic due to box shortages and, for me anyway, it definitely detracted a bit from the joy of the purchase, so I totally get it. That being said, today I am fully enjoying my boxless Covid purchases and any disappointment I felt at the time has totally faded. Hopefully the steamer truck (thank you Peter Nitz!) will rectify at least some of the condition issues for you and you will be able to fully enjoy your new, very very beautiful bag.
