Joseph Duclos Thread

I have a question. Is anyone else not going out as often as they used to (post-COVID) and not using their ‘luxury’ bags as much? This is me. Besides the sticker shock, I think that’s why I’m hesitating on spending $9K on a bag.
*raises hand* Me!

I transitioned to remote work more than a year ago and so I don't go out that much anymore. But I still need new bags:

1. For traveling. I need something with top handle and detachable strap. Big enough so that it can store my glasses, powerbank, a book, and some toiletries.

2. For summer. I really want a canvas-leather bag. Or a wicker bag like the Kelly Picnic. Or a straw bag. Right now I only have a shiny, black leather bag from Prada and it doesn't suit the summer vibe. I had asked Ramesh before (via Megs, on this thread) if Duclos has plans to release a canvas bag but he said they're primarily a leather brand, and so that's a no. Their yellow Diane L20 is the most summery bag they have but it's no bueno for me.

I still hope Duclos makes a mixed material bag. They're already doing it with the Passementerie straps. Just a tiny step and those will make their way to bags.

@Mousy @allanrvj - Not going out as much but also extremely aware of economics during an election year. I won't get into those things here. Also though a HUGE variable to my spending right now are these ridiculous price hikes. I am embarrassed by them.

Less going out overall, maybe due to getting older, plus working from home (Covid and after) .... and since I don't have a bag collection (not yet), my only nice bag is Diane, so I tried to wear it out and enjoy it

Yeah — though (perhaps) necessary, the price increases make me cringe a little. And our sales tax just increased to ~15%. Now, add duties to that. :whut: As I sit at home thinking about purchasing my next wishlist bag, I pause to think about the experiences I could have with the $$$$$. I suppose priorities change over time. Regardless of my purchase decisions, I’m going to love every photo and experiential comment here. Who knows, when Ramesh releases another bag I can’t resist (ahem, pm tote), you’ll see me post it here.:hbeat:

WHOA 15%, do you mind me asking what State/City has had this increase?

I would definitely be interested in a smaller tote as well.

I also wish the Diane wallet were more compact (I only carry cards now) and had the same clasp as the bags, rather than the JD initials. My 30th birthday is coming up and I’d love to treat myself to something like that.

But having read the interview with Nair posted here a few pages ago, that is probably not in the books. I see that it’s what many other brands do (make lots of the same design at different sizes and price points including SLGs to appeal to as large of a customer base as possible) and I am guessing that is not the Joseph Duclos strategy, which I can respect.

But especially as an American potential customer who has never seen these in person and needs to hop on a plane to do so, it would be nice to experience the brand on a smaller level sight unseen, and if I love the product, it would motivate me to continue purchasing from the brand in the future.

For now I will have to wait until my next trip to Paris so I can see everything in person.

I'm not sure about anyone else but I don't use "fussy" bags in the Summer. I tend to go for a waist bag, or sling. I am currently rotating between a LV sling, and LV Speedy 30...not fussy and easy to load up and get into

I use a Longchamp "straw" bag these days (I only found out after buying that it was canvas made to look like straw).

All leather bags just feels so heavy and not really in tune with the weather, even if it's in bright colors like yellow, but maybe that's just me.

I asked JD before if they had plans to introduce canvas bags and they said No because they are a leather company. I think they might want to rethink their approach to cater to people who are looking for summer bags.

Raffia basket bags in various sizes with Heritage leather trimmings in Châtaignier or even Noir would do so well, I imagine. Or some offerings in osier and Heritage leather since there's an area in France that specializes in osier. Maybe that can be the future of JD.

Ramesh did an osier Gabrielle at Moynat so I could definitely see that being a thing. (And unless I am having age-induced hallucinations I think I saw one recently at Saks so they are still producing them.) JD is into the heritage crafts that go alongside leather well (like passementerie), so fingers crossed, it would be interesting.

I agree with the sentiment about heaviness, although I think that the heritage leather because of the surface and patina feels less heavy (and I will definitely be trotting out my red DM this summer).

I'm so delighted by the idea of an osier Diane. Like a Diane 30 in osier without the middle divider. My god, so delicious.

Ramesh if you're reading this, I don't ask for much but please make this a reality! :girlsigh:
