mine is as a separate part of my homeowners insurance through travelers. it costs me like $120 for the year with a $500 deductible for $21,500 of coverage (the appraised value of my ring - dang thing appraises higher and higher every year which just makes the insurance more, oh well, I love it no matter what), full replacement including if I lost it (not all policies will cover loss or damage (I had a friend chip her tiffany diamond in the dryer and her policy replaced it completely, some only cover theft)

you will have to have it professionally appraised, but that's no big deal. get it insured ASAP!

Why was her ring in the dryer?

il*bacio*bella & Castocreations, sorry to hear about your rings! How did it get lost/stolen?

My fiancee is still really reluctant to have my ring insured because of the high premium (~$1000 through Statefarm). So, I'm trying to be very careful with my e-ring.:confused1:

You should shop around for insurance.

All my jewelry is in the high end department and my insurance is not that much.

Right now I only have a policy for my engagement ring.

Just curious, how do you decide what else to insure? Is there a price point that you base it off of, like anything over x amount gets added to your policy?

ive never really though of ensuring my watches i dont have anything that passes $7000USD. REGRETTABLY. :hysteric: but once i get my cartier ballon bleu large in rose gold you bet his ass is being insured up to the TEETH! :)

I've got all jewellery over 1000 UK sterling insured with a separate specialist company,as anything over that figure isn't covered by our household insurance.I have all of it insured on one or the other, even all the inexpensive bits total up to a lot ,so they are all noted to be claimed on the household if anything does go wrong.I mean just little pairs of silver earrings, silver rings and bits and bobs, its amazing when you sit and total it all up it can come to,so don't forget about that stuff too!!!

At the moment I have just the one ring insured on my home insurance. I think we had to pay extra for it to be covered on the policy as it wasn't covered automatically. My silver jewelry I haven't looked into to be honest, I really should as like Chaz said before me it all adds up.

Our jeweler keeps reminding us that it's a good idea to insure valuable pieces. She said it can be done with one's homeowner policy or a separate jewelry insurance policy .

Thanks for the thread! This is so helpful!!

Please forgive my additional questions, but I was just wondering, since my homeowner's insurance policy is not enough to cover my jewelry, should I still insure it PER item?

Because I have been doing some research on this, and I realize that when one buys the insurance per item for any jewellery that is worn often, or is not locked in the safe exceeding a certain amount of time, the premium amount is rather significant.....at 1-3% of the value insured per annum!

That's can add up to a couple of grand a year if we insure every piece....No? :sweatdrop:

Is there a company that anyone can please recommend with a more comprehensive insurance solution specifically for jewelry, antiques etc...? Thanks!:flowers:

DBF and I insured our watches (Rolex, Movado, and TAG Heuer). I also insured my David Yurman pieces. I have a bunch of non-designer pieces that aren't particularly valuable, so I didn't bother with those.

Your insurance will most likely make you get a "rider" for your jewelery you want to insure over a certain amount...i don't know what that is. i have my stuff insured, and actually I have all my handbags insured, so you should have no problem. I think it's more of a "what's it worth to you".

We are not home owners quite yet, so for right now we have a policy with Chubb, which allows you to insure just jewelry, where as other companies require that it be a rider on your home owners policy and wouldn't let us take out just a jewelry policy. I do believe we are paying about 2%/year for my ring which is worn daily.
