I just engaged this past weekend, and my fiance called State Farm (who we have auto and renter's insurance) about insuring my ring. It is going to cost $100 per year - a separate insurance to cover the ring only. I think it helps to get your all your insurance from one place.

I completely agree with you. I didn't have mine insured for almost 2 years and my husband upgraded my center stone  and the appraisal went up dramatically. I thought it would cost an arm and a leg to insure it. It's only like $32 bucks a month. Way cheaper than shelling out $38,000 to replace the set. I feel so much better now that it's insured. Small piece of mind on my part and probably my husbands (he would throw a fit if he had to buy another set of rings).

check out chubb insurance for this. i have a marine policy with them covering my jewelry. i did have to make a claim once and it was very well handled. costs are dependent on your location. some areas are considered more of a risk than others.

I also have Chubb. Some policies will replace with like-kind, but I wanted to make sure that my Tiffany ring was insured so that if something happened I'd get a Tiffany replacement or cash.

My ring is insured as a separate line item with Nationwide. I think it costs an additional $350 annually. It may be a bit cheaper than other companies because we also have our car insurance with Nationwide.

Hi I am undecided but wanted to ask your opinions. Do you insure al your jewlery on your homeowners policy. I have a few things like my diamond ring and emerald, but dont know if I should insure my diamond tennis bracelet too! Any thoughts...I value all your opinions!!!

^^^Ditto.

The basic homeowner's policy only allows a small amount toward jewelry and other valuables. You need a separate rider on things above and beyond that to cover your jewelry (and in my case my violin).

Ok, so what if you're a new yorker, like myself, and I rent an apartment. What are my options? My ring and band are worth a bundle and I would like to be on the safe side w/insurance.
