Travel Italia! All things all Italy!

I've enjoyed reading through this tread to get ideas for my upcoming trip to Tuscany the last two weeks of October! We are arriving in Rome and spending one night before renting a car and heading north. We would like to spend one night in a smaller town or Agriturismo before heading to Florence for 3 nights. I see there are a bunch of chestnut and other fall festivals around this time. Are there any you would recommend? Most festivals haven't posted their dates yet but I'm crossing my fingers for the Monte Amiata region for Oct. 21/22nd.
I would also love recommendations for wineries with lodging and other places to visit. We are going to Lucca, Siena, and Montepulciano but haven't made hotel reservations yet.
Sounds like a great trip... I'm going to Lucca (among other places in Tuscany) in less than 2 weeks as well :panic:Unfortunately I never go to Tuscany in Autumn + I don't drink wine, so I won't be much help regarding your questions, hehe  However, I have a sweet tooth and definitely recommend getting traditional Panforte bread (dried fruits and nuts) in Siena, in case you haven't tried it yet  They sell them everywhere across Siena, but one of the most famous places is Nannini bakery (owned by the family of the famous Italian singer Gianna Nannini).

How exciting! You'll have to tell me what you did in Lucca. We are trying to decide how much time to spend there and what to see. Thanks for the tip on the bread, I'll make sure to try that when we're there.

I'm back  It was great, Lucca was lovely as always, but didn't have much time for sightseeing, so I just walked around the streets, did some shopping and went for lunch :P There is also composer Puccini's birth house in Lucca which is worth seeing. And of course the famous round square (it sounds a bit contradictory, lol). You are just starting your trip these days, right? Have a great time! :yahoo:

I leave tomorrow! Thank you for the info on Lucca, we might make a stop there on our swing back south . I've found a chestnut festival in Arcidosso that we are going to check out. Crossing my fingers for chestnut pasta!

Last year my daughter and I traveled to Paris, Rome and Venice. We had such a wonderful time, and the food in Italy was absolutely delicious. We ate like pigs! lol. I definitely plan on going back to Italy sometime in the near future, I just fell in love. My grandparents were from there, so it means so much to me.
