I love both. My engagement /wedding rings are yellow gold ,so I wear yellow on my left hand all of the time. I can't bring myself to take off my wedding ring. I wear a yellow gold watch most of the time. All of my white gold I wear on my right. If I wear my white gold watch,I just wear my right hand rings and add a diamond bracelet on my right.
To answer the question,I do think the trend is showing yellow gold

Yellow gold is clearly making a comeback trendwise and rose gold is really in. I love the color of 18k rose (aka pink) gold. I am glad yellow gold is back because I own mostly yellow gold jewelry; but if I want to mix I mix.

Yellow gold was THE bomb when I was in college 16 years ago...and that was also the same time that silver/white gold started to creep up in popularity. Starting in the early '90's, white gold and platinum started to replace the yellow gold wedding sets that had been in vogue for about 20-25 years. I haven't seen any recently engaged couples with yellow gold wedding sets since WG/platinum still dominate, but it's been refreshing to see yellow/rose gold in just about every other kind of jewelry!

Yellow gold is so warm, lively, classic, and flattering to just about every complexion. I love it! My wedding set is platinum but ALL the other jewelry I've been wearing lately has been yellow gold.

High yellow gold is used by the finest designers. Some pieces of jewelry don't lend themselves to white metals. Take a look at Gurhan jewelry, for example. Yellow gold also looks better against certain skin tones. Poor lifeisgrand...yellow gold makes her so so ill. Please stay out of Cartier. It will positively turn your delicate tummy. But what do they know about having a sense of style.

Looking at prices above I see one reason yellow gold is hot! But chicken or the egg here is it high price because it is in demand or is it in demand because it is going up in price?

I dont think it's a matter of being in or out. It's really about a woman's preference and skin tone. More or less, I'm still seeing about 50/50 when it comes to what's new being put out there. I think I look better in platinum, white gold and silver than yellow or rose gold. I tend to stick to the same silvery hues for all my accessories to match--purse hardware, belts, shoes, even jeans :)
