Is Tiffany silver really worth it?

I'm a gold girl, but I love tiffany silver. Not everything, but what I do have I love to bits. The older I get, the more I notice i go for the substantial silver pieces. This is what draws me to Hermes sterling, too. Talk about questioning whether a sterling piece is "worth it" or not! H silver jewelry is over the moon expensive.

My favorite sterling piece is not a designer item though. It's a heavy sterling ring I got at Ross, of all places. Just goes to show, things are only worth it if you know you'll love and wear it.

That's really nice! I love how you look at price depending on what its worth to you. My mom is always yelling at me to buy gold because it's an investment. It always goes up in price. There is always that argument that you can buy a much heavier piece or a bigger diamond somewhere that isn't brand name. I'm always conflicted between brand name and small or local jewelers and big!

I think it depends on the piece. For example, I really love the Elsa Peretti Bottle design but in gold, it's way, way out of my price point, so I bought it in silver and I'm very happy. I think when you can afford the other metals, than go for it, but if you can't and can only get it in silver, I think you will be just as happy. I own a lot of Tiffany silver and there's only one piece that I'm having an issue with tarnish - my Daisy key - it's a beautiful piece but the area around the daisy goes grey real easily and so I wouldn't recommend it simply because I'm having to clean it all the time it seems.

ETA - I also have Tiffany gold pieces and no, it hasn't made a difference in liking my silver pieces less as a result.

Oh no I love the daisy key! That's such a shame. Would you recommend the keys in general or something more timeless?

^ Yes, I'm a big fan of the keys collection. I personally love, and if I were to do it over again, would get this one:

It is cute. I'm pretty conflicted because I love the key collection but my bf thinks it doesn't look elegant like other tiffany pieces. Kinda looks too young. Although I don't agree I wonder if he has a point. He is stating from a man's point of view you know?

I'm considering a "key" necklace with the 30" bead chain - the enameled one in tiffany blue - curious - if you order online - is the packaging the same as the store? I have seen these keys on ebay for more than online retail and cannot understand why - I know there are fake tiffany pieces out there - I see them on craiglist all the time advertised as "replica". Has anyone purchased the enameled key with monogramming or purchased online and can describe the packaging? Thanks !

I started getting into Tiffany's when I was 22 and my parents bought me first piece in white gold as a graduation present ( Im now 26).

After that I really wanted more pieces and I only bought the silver cause it was what I could afford for myself and my boyfriend could afford to gift to me for birthdays etc. The price of Tiffany silver has since sky rocketed and while yes I believe its still worth it because of the quality of the silver and the designs I wouldn't build too large of a sterling silver collection. Get a classic Tiffany sterling silver pieces like a key or Return to Tiffany bracelet etc that you know will always look fabulous and be in style.

Since last year I've started to love the yellow gold and pearl pieces a lot more and now don't purchase the silver. It takes me longer to purchase Tiffany's now but I feel I have enough silver and am really only interested in purchasing the fine pieces now. Either way I think its good to diversify because your tastes will change over time.

Anyways just my two sense because although I still love my silver pieces sometimes yellow gold or rose gold look better with a particular outfit so its good to diversify.

I totally agreen with you about diversity. I've been a lover of yellow gold all my life. Recently I've become a huge fan of silver! My family and friends are confused because I'm technically downgrading. I think silver just looks better in some designs than yellow gold :) if I ever find a tiffany piece I'm in love with in the gold then I will skip on the silver and vice versa. Since I made this post I actually purchased some tiffany silver and am loving it!

I'm not sure if there already is a thread like this but I haven't been able to find exactly the answer I'm looking for! I recently got into Tiffany. I'm usually a gold lover but there is something about Tiffany silver that is irrisistable!

I especially love the key and lock collections and think it would look really cute either on a chain or as a charm bracelet.

My question is, is it really worth it?!

I feel like the silver tarnishes easily and gets really scratched up. I know that its inevitable but I feel like it just makes an overpriced piece of jewellery look cheap!

Should I save up for the gold? For those with tiffany collections, did the silver lose its novalty? Did you stop wearing silver once you got gold? Do charm bracelets get super scratched up?

I know its alot of questions :blushing: ...I'm in need of some help! :smile1:

SO...Tiffany silver: Yay or Nay?! :graucho:

Nay☹ I recently received a silver heart necklace from my husband. I wore it for a week without taking it off and when i did, it looked really disgusting. On the other hand, i have a platinum necklace that he gave ard 4 years back, it still looks as good as new. Platinum is less shiny than silver at the beginning but over time, it is lower maintenance.

When you say "didn't take it off" do you literally mean that? I only ask because they specifically told me that their silver should not be worn in the shower/swimming.

For me the choice is simple as I only like and wear white metals and believe white gold is much more overpriced than silver for what it is. So, I buy either platinum or silver for more casual pieces, and maintenance of the latter is no problem. The only bad thing is the colors of platinum and silver are so different, but as many of you mentioned not all items are available in a variety of metals, and I'm just not willing to pay the platinum prices for all my jewelry.

All in all, silver is a good metal for casual items (which are beautiful at Tiffanys) and easy to maintain at almost no cost :)

I think turnishing of Silver is Personal depending. I wore my Bean necklace 1 month 24/7, including shower/Workouts and it didn't turnish. My daughter wore a silver necklace and it got pretty turnished only After 1 week.

I agree! White gold looks JUST like silver I very rarely can tell a difference. I personally would never pay for white gold.

I had that with a ring, and they ended up exchanging it for me. Maybe they can do the same here!
