I am not so sure that this is a defect. I do not have the patent bag. However, the regular jumbos with the leather through the chain have a similar type link. I believe this "weird" link is what is used to make the chain one continuous loop - if that makes sense. I just tuck that part of the chain under the flap. There are some threads on this if you do a search. Maybe another patent jumbo owner can chime in.
If this is the pre fall brown goatskin jumbo, then yes it's normal. The links were like that on my pre fall patent bordeaux jumbo. I was concerned about it so I pmed other pre fall jumbo owners. All of the bags had that double link with no leather going through it.
^ITA (Hi H)! I was just going to post that. I have the pre-fall Bordeaux patent goatskin Jumbo, and that is exactly how my chain looks. I remember the threads posted about this back when they were released months ago, and the consensus was that it is "normal"... at least, for the goatskin flaps it is.
^^ Hi H! LOL, I'm not surprised at all that we were going to post the same thing at almost the same time. Yes, it's normal for the goatskin jumbo flaps only. The chains on my caviar jumbos and my other patent jumbos have continuous leather straps.
Maybe it's a double link to link the entire chain in a circle? I hope that made sense. But, that's how I'm looking at it, especially since others have said theirs looks just like yours. Oh dear @ the SA already ordering a bag. Well its not your fault anyways. Enjoy your new bag
That is normal for 08 goatskin patent flaps, and some vintage flaps including XL Jumbos do sometimes have that gap within the links as well definitely not a defect.
I have the 08 camel patent goatskin jumbo, mine also looks like that. In fact, I was worrying about it when I first got the bag and posted this exact same question on this forum.
