Is the Hermes "Birkin" worth the money and the wait? Is it obtainable?

2 days ago i decided to pay the store in Paris a visit. I waited in Q n when I was attended by the SA, I asked for a Birkin 35 in bright colors she told me to wait. After 5 mins she told me to follow her and to my surprise she presented me with a Birkin! I have never bought any thing from that store before nor did she check my name with the data base. My mum will be so happy :)
Not sure abt other countries but I didnt face the problems with needing to spend before they offer me a Birkin in Paris.

Right now the new politics in Hermes paris (i dont know if it is worldwide) is that the client walks in and asks for birkin/kelly and there are weekly new arrivals, based on first come, first serve, they will show you what there is in stock. My friend who was in faubourg st honoré last week was told that hermes is trying this new policy and dropping the
waiting lists for the moment.

My girlfriend was at Hermes Boutique in Vancouver, Canada and the SA told her she has to spend at least $5K on "other stuffs" (shoes, scarfs, watch, jewelry etc) before they would consider placing her name down on the wait list for Birkin. Is this common? Is this happening in other Hermes stores around the world as well?

I could say kinda like this...

My SA in the US told me that their policy is not to offer Birkins or Kellys to walk-ins, only to regular customers. Although she did not give a minimum amount that one needs to spend before being offered a bag, in practice being a regular customer means spending a significant amount of money on other things. For me, this was not an issue since I enjoy H jewelry, shawls, shoes, and small leather goods and would have bought them in any case.

Wow! So..this is a common practice then. But I can see where they are coming from. It's only fair for their regular customers to receive perks of priority in line on the wait list.

Stnteo,

Wow that sound easy to get a birkin! May I know which Hermes did you go?

Hi Icemilo,
I got the Birkin at St Honore store around 2pm. I was in Paris for a week and visited the store on 2 other occasions with no luck I actually had already given up but decided to drop by on the last day. I guess I was really lucky and the stock may have just came in. I did however listen to the SA who told me to drop by in the afternoons maybe she was hinting me stocks usually in after lunch lol.

Hasn't that always been the practice at FSH? And several of the France stores?:confused1:

In the rest of world it's different ....

This is good to know about FSH...!! Because sometimes people have insane reveals from FSH ending with a big box, and I wonder if they got the big box because of all the other little boxes!

Dear Experts,
I've been saving up for my first Hermes. But I know prices have gone up constantly. Can you please let me know what is the least expensive Kelly 28 (i.e. leather type and color), and how much is it brand new at the store? How can I get one brand new from the store without having to spend on other things from Hermes? I live near San Francisco.
Since I'm considering to buy a used one from Non-Hermes Stores like Malleries or Luxury Exchange. It is a lot of money, please help me to make the best decision for my first Hermes. Thank you all

There are existing threads for each and every one of your questions. Check the current pricing thread for the different prices and the newbi´s guide to getting a birkin. Lots of information if you use the search function. Good luck.
