I prefer the hand held look for the Kelly - just as You say. Strap only for occasional assistance when we are strugling at the airport or something...
Yes. It looks like a weekend bag to me. But I think it's because you are wearing it using a long strap. I personally find K35 always looks big on a long strap. It looks better with a shorter strap on the side rather than cross body. I think it will also look better hand held. Do you need such a big bag for your needs? if not I would go down to 32 as bigger size is heavier.
Looks cool to me , very much a daytime look and as perfect with your casual look as it would be with anything else.
I prefer a Kelly worn casually as an afterthought ,as if you’ve just grabbed it on the way out which I think suits the size. I wear my 32 retourné very much like that , a casual on the go bag.
My dream Kelly is Fauve Barenia retourné, size 32 works well for me but I wouldn't say no to a 35 having seen this!

If I were styling you, I'd happily give you a 35 retourné to carry in hand (as others have said strap just for occasional assistance). A selliers looks bigger than retourné and also, don't forget a bright or light colour will also make a bag look bigger and dominate the outfit.
35 was the quintessential classic size until more recently and the usual choice of Grace Kelly. With casual clothes and the fashion for smaller bags it looks large by comparison, but if you wore more formal clothes and were carrying it buy the handle I think you wouldn't doubt at all that you were carrying the bag and not vice versa. If the 35s in those colours mentioned you're thinking of buying are retourné I think they'll look fine.

I'm super petite (5' 1, 95 pounds) and a soft 35 looks great on me carried in hand. On strap I am better with 32 or smaller retourné and 28 or smaller sellier - but I think a lot has to do with personal style. I carry a Birkin 35 almost every day as an everything bag.
I honestly think the bag looks fine on you - as a larger, casual, day bag. Since you want Barenia, that is exactly the kind of bag you are looking for. Obviously you are not looking for evening as a 28 is the smallest Kelly I could imagine carrying for evening.
The size of bags is so personal...carry what works for you.
IMO this bag would look great hand held. Cross body it's just too big. I am petite and love big bags and try and work them into my lifestyle so they don't look like they are wearing me. I think you should try the 28 or 32 and see how you feel - let us know what you decide.
I am a petite 152cm, 43kg, Fr size 34 and I think Kelly size 25-32 is max for me. My take is the bag is a bit too much on you in this pic. JMHO.
