Is LV Luggage worth $2500? Trying to decide whether to buy...

I have Tumi and Samsonite luggage. Both are durable and have great warranties. Also, Tumi has a recovery program in case your luggage is lost or stolen. You can't get more info about it on their website.

I personally wouldn't spend that much money on luggage. When I travel my luggage gets wicked dirty and abused.

I LOVE Tumi luggage... JMHO, but it's a nice 'status' choice of luggage that can take a beating. Unfortunately, people will steal what they want to no matter what, but I have heard great news about their recovery program.

For looks, love the LV overall, but for practicality I go for the TUMI.

I think that LV luggage is only good if you have a private plane. Like someone stated before, it's a little too flashy and is way more likely to be stolen than just a regular suitcase. I have known people who have gotten their garment bags stolen out of their suitcases, so I wouldn't risk it!

People steal stuff. If you an imagine leaving your LV purse laying around for 2 hours and thing that someone won't still it that's crazy.

Plus the way airlines toss your stuff around! I only use the cheapest luggage I can find except for totally carry-on flights or on a car trip. LV luggage is very appealing - but I agree with some posters that nothing LV is "really" worth the price for just the materials and workmanship, it's the history and cachet of the brand that you are really paying for.

Only if you really really love it. If you're torn even before purchasing, I think its a sign to pass it by. I fly SW a lot too and the chances of checking a 60 cm are pretty high since so many of the planes are small regionals.

Get the Pegase 55. It goes on board with you, AND it has a cover to put in it in the overhead bins. I was worried about the price too, but I absolutely LOVE it and it is so worth it.

How has your luggage held up? I know i'd probably burst into tears watching someone cram some awful thing next to my luggage in the overhead compartments.

I have a full set of vintage Mono Pullman luggage that I converted to the Pegase-style, and I've used them in my travels many times. You do have to assume that they are going to get tossed around, but, so far, I've had no problems. I also have an extra "new style" Mono Pegase 55 that I use with my Keepall duffle bags as carry-on luggage, and it too has held up well, even when other people are stuffing their items into the overhead compartments next to it. [I think that sometimes people are purposefully hard about putting things in next to my bag just because it's LV. :cursing:]

You should NEVER have regrets/doubts about your pieces. IMO, the coated canvas Mono and Damier will hold up much better over time than any other line; if you have doubts, I would say don't get it yet, make sure that you're going to be willing to use it. :thinkin::wondering

IF we are talking durability wise I can help. I have had two experiences with luggage. 1) I use to have a samsonite hardcase rolling trolley. I really liked it but it was really heavy and when I filled it with just a weeks worth of supplies it ended up getting heavier and costing me a fortune to check in.

I purchased a pegase 70 and love the thing! ITs light, never gets heavy when I fill it with a weeks worth of clothes and I always have plenty of room. LV knows how to make luggage. Yeah you are paying for the monogram brand but I swear the pegase is my favoirte luggage item. I live in Oregon and that thing has been rained on, thrown by luggage handlers...but it always makes it back looking really good. I check it in when I fly and I have never had problems.

1) pic of my luggage after flying into Burbank from portland. It was checked in.
2) if you do car trips get hardluggage. classy way to go.

I would only buy it preowned, since for me that makes more sense.
My DH works for Delta Airlines so we fly a good bit. We also always check our luggage since the planes are flying so full these days and we don't like to take up time and space with the stuffing of luggage into the overhead bins.
I personally feel that LV luggage gets it's character from the dings and bangs of travel but then again, I could stand those dings much more easily if the luggage was preowned and I didn't pay full retail.
But that's just me.

I love the keepall as a carryon, but I wouldn't want the worry of checking in LV luggage. The monogram is instantly recognizable and I really wouldn't feel comfortable handing it off for fear of it getting stolen.

I have a mono keepall, and until recently, I was seriously considering getting a Pegase. But I opted against it. I've realized that I do not need the extra hassle of worrying about my luggage when I travel (and when I walk around in the airport, I want my hands free rather than dragging around my keepall because I'm too afraid to check it). Do I love my keepall? Yes. Am I glad that I have it, as it's an iconic LV piece? Yes. Would I buy it today if I didn't already own one? NO.

So of course, if you really want one, get it, but I'd personally get a cute tumi or something else for luggage, and then buy some other LV pieces for the rest of the money.

Ya. of course its I'm paying a lot for status, haha thats why we buy all our expensive bags and shoes. :-) I've always wanted it but coudlnt' afford it when it was $1500 and it was spendy than but didn't seem so bad, but now that its nearly $2500..yikes its a harder one to swallow. :-( I think for the most part I can use it as ac arryon but my other worry is when I take it to a hotel and have to "check it" with the bell stands, they all seem pretty reliable. We take trips to Vegas a lot, so we ened up leaving our luggage with the hotel peeps alot while we finish our day out at the strip before our flight.

has anyone had their LV luggage stolen/ If so did the airline replace the value?

I've read and heard of many horror stories about people missing items from their LV luggage after they checked it in. I suppose having an "LV" luggage checked is like a bright neon sign that says, "ROB ME!!! I am Money!!!"

On the other hand, if you buy smaller pieces that you can carry on yourself, then it should be worth the investment as LV luggage pieces are extremely durable.
