Is anyone else tired of the Chanel Bag trend?

Well considering I haven't been basically anywhere but work for the duration (so far) of this pandemic, any "over-saturation" of the brand I have encountered is totally social media driven.
This, 10000%!

It really is a purely regional issue. Where I am, I am literally the only person on the planet to wear a Chanel bag. The only other person I have ever witnessed wearing a Chanel bag where I live is an old lady with a very beat up vintage that I admired and I was really surprised to see it. If I go to another city though things can be very different. So for me, there cannot be any saturationwhen it comes to those beautiful beautiful bags.

I think two things can be true at once. I think people can feel there‘s a saturation of Chanel (a.k.a. a trend?) on social media, yet buy and appreciate Chanel. I‘ve stop watching new from store Chanel and Hermès (B&K) unboxing videos on social media because I feel like I’m watching the same videos with the same comments—the bags just happen to be different colors. The social media scene is saturated. On the other hand, I appreciate seeing Chanel bags in the wild, browsing the bag varieties at the stores, and I like my Chanel bags. Just because people think Chanel is trendy right now doesn’t mean they think any less of the brand. Buy what you love!

It’s fun to read this thread. My 17yo daughter has expressed an interest in being gifted a designer bag for her 18th birthday (18 is the ‘coming of adult age’ birthday here). It made me think about what I myself wanted to signal with my designer bag choices. I do NOT want to be wearing what high school girls wear? Or has the horse bolted now thanks to social media and unless I’m into Hermes (I’m not) it will be a matter of dressing as lamb in my favourite designer brands now?? :hrmm:

Oo this is interesting. I live in nyc, and when I go to the subway (4 blocks walk), I'll see about 2-4 ppl wearing chanel on my way to the station or on the platform. I only started noticing after I was trying to get a bag for myself and then realised more people were carrying chanel than I had thought. Its a big city though
I also see Chanel everywhere in NYC. On the UES, it's everyone from high schoolers (and tweens!) to their grandparents. Downtown it's a bit less prevalent but I would still say that after LV it's the most ubiquitous luxury bag brand.

i agree @floatinglili! This is a fun to read thread and please let us know what your daughter receives for her birthday!

I am definitely noticing more Chanel on social media but not so much where I live in northern New Jersey, which is upper middle class. I see a lot of LV or the occasional Gucci. There is a luxury mall about 20min from our town so people definitely have access to Chanel and Hermes. Im definitely going to be more observant, I’m now curious as to what everyone in my town wears-in a friendly way☺️ When I go out food shopping later, I will watch and report any new findings!

I would love to hear your report!
i will be lead by my daughter and have decided we will not be shopping online for this purchase. I will make a trip to the ‘big smoke’ and will enjoy shopping in person with her. We have some luxury here in our city but not an unlimited supply.
I am thinking Gucci, she mentioned Louis Vuitton as a possibility - I certainly shan’t tell her that the cashed-up high school princesses of the US are rocking Chanel at 15!

As for my own handbag dilemma - of how to square top shelf brands that are embracing ‘youthful exuberance’ when I myself am hoping for a more age-appropriate elegance?? :confused1:
Perhaps the answer is to go for the lesser profile / ‘less flashy logo and hardware’ choices. Céline here I come. Shame - I used to like a liddle bit of flash myself.:hrmm:

My daughter wants a bag for her 18th birthday, too. She’s into vintage, so she’s looking at the pre-loved market. I‘m looking forward to reading what you decide to get your daughter.

I love the term ‘cashed-up’.
Céline is an excellent under-the-radar brand!:girlsigh:

My girl mentioned Prada as another option which quite frankly surprised me. I actually felt pleased when I heard the name as I feel the brand had gotten a bit off the boil in recent years - I was pleased to hear the kids were okay with Prada!
For some reason this is a brand that I would happily wear alongside the young uns - the ‘intellectual’ feel of the brand makes me feel a little more comfortable / supported somehow. I think perhaps because Miuccia Prada herself casts a long shadow. And of course there is Miu Miu which is the frothier alternative too for all those instagrammers out there.

I read this thread with interest. I’ve started to get really sick of my Chanel classic flap – black caviar with gold hardware - and I couldn’t work out why! I just don’t reach for it much and when I wear it I feel like it looks really basic and boring – no offence to anyone here I’m just talking about how I feel when I wear it. I think it looks great on other people. I think what the issue is for me is that I see a lot of people on Instagram with the same bag. And not particularly stylish people either! I really love Chanel but there’s something about the classic flap at the moment that I’m not liking. I think if it was in a different colour or hardware I would feel differently but my black with gold is not doing it for me at the moment. I prefer to have something different than what other people have but I still love Chanel. I’m thinking of selling my classic flap and trying to find something that is similar but a bit different. That’s why I like my Trendy cos I never see anyone with them where I live.

Funnily enough, where I live in the north west of England, I don’t see many people with a classic flap. I agree with others who said the over-saturation is to do with social media.

REPORT TIME!
Nothing exciting here really. I did actually see a classic flap and I giggled under my mask hehe. It was beautiful, the shiniest lamb skin ever! I did also see one fake LV. But other than that…no bags that I recognized at all. :confused1:

Someone did say they liked my style though which put such a smile on my face! I’m just coming off of covid, today was my first day out and I do look like hell lol but I managed to throw on my black faux fur coat and leopard D&G bag. I also had on leggings with red lip marks up the side. Oh G-d, you can tell I’m from New Jersey without me even saying:biggrin:

I can totally see what you’re saying @honeybunch. The classic flap is beautiful but I can see feeling ‘blah’ with it. I’ve owned two Chanel bags (both have been resold) Neither were classic flaps but one was close, I believe it was the 3 Flap? Very similar to a flap bag but it had 3 compartments instead of the one interior if that makes any sense. And I remember thinking they were beautiful bags but they didn’t set my heart on fire. @floatinglili love the term “cashed-up” I’m gonna use it! And you get whatever bag you want! As much as I do hate how saturated social media is with Chanel, as long as these youngins love them, I’m good with it.

I don't think I can go anywhere without seeing Chanel, Chanel, Chanel. Always the same bags. Usually the smallest versions. I think the Chanel bags are beautiful but enough. Are they going to be the "IT" bag of 2022 just like every blogger in 2021? I'm really looking forward to what comes next!
Yes I never gravited to Chanel before but partially because all I saw were people walking around with their classic flaps or boys. When you see 1 you see them all when it comes to those flaps. Then, one day, I decided to walk in to "waste" time and I saw the 19. THAT was my first Chanel bag ever as it was unique. That started a trend but I never fell hard for the classic double flap. I wouldn't mind a mini flap with the gold ball tho. I do like that one.
