I was getting serious FOMO over the Ergo yesterday and couldn’t stop thinking about how Coach is phasing out the Originals (correct me if I’m wrong) and this would be my last chance to get something with vintage vibes.

That’s when I thought why not stop collecting vintage-inspired bags and seriously look into the vintage market for once. I’ve always adored the City and Court bags and those are relatively easy to find.

Which inspired a question I have for the group - if Coach were to continue the Originals collection, what vintage styles would you want them to bring back?

My top picks are the Court, the Plaza, the City and the Crescent.

Happy New Year! I’ve already broken our ban. It’s not even lunch yet. Look what arrived last night (had to get it this morning from the neighbour as we were out with our family last night).

It’s the Pennie 22 backpack in 1941 Red. I’ve never carried a backpack ever but I love the colour. It was a really good deal ($179 CAN) so I could not stop myself. This is my second red bag. I also own the Lunar New Year Callie.

How cute! I have a mini backpack and it’s one of my most used daytime bags in the summer. It’s perfect when going to a festival and needing to be hands free for browsing shops and eating.

The pony express is very special! I remember seeing listings at ridiculous prices. That kind of bag just isn’t made anymore, I see what you mean about reissues not doing it. It’s not just about the design - the beauty is in the craftsmanship, which hasn’t been at that level in a long time.

I did think about the vintage Ergo and realized that if the vintage version isn’t my first choice then I really don’t need the new one (considering I already have one).

A City bag would be perfect, I think. The British tan colour is very tempting. I adore brown leather and for some reason Coach hasn’t been releasing many brown bags lately. Their vintage browns are beautiful and complement casual outfits ve well imho.

I know! Why aren’t there more browns? I love brown bags. I sold my saddle rogue 36 because it was too big but I loved the color.

Yes, a reissue for sure since it was new from the outlet maybe 6 years ago. I know the vintage classics are supposed to be better but I got turned off completely by this one and also by a preowned red Willis that I got which had a cigarette smell that was not disclosed (I returned it). I bought several reissues new from the outlet (only the black stewardess stained my hand) and I also had a few vintage pieces that I had bought new decades ago (as a child ). Guess I just don’t like the fuzzy natural lining. Sacrilegious to say I guess on the Coach forum

I go back and forth on unlined interiors. Sometimes I love it sometimes it annoys me lol Some of my vintage bags suede is so flat it’s kind of scratchy and I don’t like that. Others the suede is very soft.

My Michael kors collection satchel is suede lined and it is the softest most supple suede I’ve ever touched! It feels like heaven.

Hi Chiichan, I’m so glad to hear about your big kids are back at school. They need to be with their teachers and friends and doing “school stuff.” I see that everyday in my Kindergarten. There’s a lot of love between the Kinders and I think the socializing is the biggest part that they missed out on previously.

Gosh, your Tiny is so young still, it’s hard for us to imagine the very little ones wearing a mask. But I know with the good modelling your family is doing wearing a mask, your wee one will do so. And I think a few minutes at 2 years old is remarkable! I continue to be amazed and delighted with the resilience of the young. I see it at everyday at school so I know it for a fact!

You’re not being selfish at all; I believe every parent wishes that things were different. I do and my kids are in their 20s! I can’t help but think their young adulthood is passing by.

Yes! The littles are so good at adapting. Way better than adults.

So very true. It’s as if they lost 2 whole years of their young days.

Last year I made it to February 11 without buying a new bag. But I bought a purse charm on January 13.

Aww yeah, I know what you mean - saddle is a beautiful shade of brown but the 36 is massive, and I say that as someone who almost always prefers larger bags.

I would love a vintage reissue in saddle brown smooth glove tanned leather. I don’t know why Coach is steering away from browns (at least in North America.

I remember when the Cassie was released a lot of fans here were waiting for it in saddle, but I think that was only sold in Europe for some reason. No idea what the thinking behind that was - Cassies sold like hot cakes in pretty much every colour. Saddle would’ve been a huge hit and should’ve been released in all markets.

I was about to bite the bullet but a covid scare kept me home! Got tested today and thankfully I’m negative for both the virus and bag purchases so far.

For 2022, I'm going to try not to look too much. I'm going to continue tracking wear. If I get up the energy, I'd like to cut about 20 bags but selling is going to be so much harder in 2022. I'm not looking forward to it.

I had been ignoring selling for a while and recently read about the changes. The $600 threshold will certainly make things interesting!
Have you thought about which bags you’d like to cut?

Your new RM suede hobo is very pretty . I forget that RM still makes hobos since I mostly see new RMs that are smaller. It’s interesting and great to see that you use your pink PM more than the Reverse one. I worry a little that the pink one is more delicate and prone to color transfer — I am not as worried about my red PM. I love the reverse print and have been tempted by the Reverse PM all of last year since I started using small bags again — the only thing that I hesitate on is adding another monogram type bag (I added 3 mono since the pandemic and I slightly worry about wearing mono out these days with local news of women and their purses being targeted).

I don’t know what my realistic bag goals for 2022. But my general goal is to NOT buy any bags in 2022 (or at least for 6 months ) except for an very inexpensive faux shearling bag. I don’t know if you know that I started selling my contemporary bags again after taking a 2-3 year break (I have only been selling to FP/YC these past few years). Sales have been slow — only sold a couple and have a few more listed.

The pink holds up pretty well! I only wear denim for brief periods of time, so it’s not too much of an issue. My scrubs are black & they don’t leave any marks on my pink baby! I’m not sure why I used pink more so than reverse, but I still love them both!
I didn’t know you were selling contemporary bags! That’s great! What prompted you to do so? Hopefully your sales will pick up!

Love your RM bag! Never owned anything from the brand but adore the aesthetic, especially slouchy styles like this one.
