I was getting serious FOMO over the Ergo yesterday and couldn’t stop thinking about how Coach is phasing out the Originals (correct me if I’m wrong) and this would be my last chance to get something with vintage vibes.

That’s when I thought why not stop collecting vintage-inspired bags and seriously look into the vintage market for once. I’ve always adored the City and Court bags and those are relatively easy to find.

Which inspired a question I have for the group - if Coach were to continue the Originals collection, what vintage styles would you want them to bring back?

My top picks are the Court, the Plaza, the City and the Crescent.

But be careful! That is a whole other rabbit hole and is sometimes more addictive!

I have a navy Court and black Rambler and love them both (well, DD has the Court). I’d also like a vintage satchel style bag when I am ready to put in the research before buying.

Thank you, that is true!

The boundary I’ve placed on myself is no bag purchases online. I am scared that I’ll slip after doing it once.

I’m in Canada and shipping plus import duties will raise prices for me considerably as well so that’s another thing to keep in mind. Returns will be difficult and pricey, if even possible.

There are more barriers with vintage but you’re right, there is potential to spiral all things considered.

What a cute little backpack — the leather looks yummy and the 1941 red is beautiful. Are the straps convertible like they are on some mini backpacks? Let us know how you like it. I have considered getting a mini backpack on and off whenever I see a cute print (like the one from the By the Pool collection).

Happy New Year! I’ve already broken our ban. It’s not even lunch yet. Look what arrived last night (had to get it this morning from the neighbour as we were out with our family last night).

It’s the Pennie 22 backpack in 1941 Red. I’ve never carried a backpack ever but I love the colour. It was a really good deal ($179 CAN) so I could not stop myself. This is my second red bag. I also own the Lunar New Year Callie.

Anyway. You’ll find me in my beach chair cuddling my Pennie in my lap. Drink?

I love the City, Willis and Court…..but they must have lined interior for me to get one. I have owned vintage ones before but disliked the suede lining coming off all over my stuff and the feel of the unlined leather (I know I am in the minority in this opinion).

The Willis is beautiful! I agree with you - I’d take a lined interior over an unlined one any day.

That's really interesting. I had what I think is a little bit of burgundy (from my Stewardess) transfer to my white pebbled wallet recently, but no other real sign or indictor of transfer or "suede lining coming off". I had used a light color, mostly off white/linen Optic jacquard wallet for a year before I switched out of it and I would wipe it down occasionally when I saw a little surface dirt, but I never saw any color transfer. I have been carrying vintage Coach for a long time.
But yeah, a suede interior is an acquired taste/not everyone's cup of tea, and yup, you might be in the minority here!!
On a side note, a few years ago in a Coach store, when a young sales associate saw my vintage bag, he was all, ooh, could I see the unlined interior, the Creed, like it was a totally big deal for him ... it was fun!

To clarify, they did not leave color transfer on my stuff since I am careful with what I put in my bags. My black Stewardess (bought new from the outlet maybe 5-6 years ago) left some light black marks on my hand when I first got it while my hand was deep in my bag looking for stuff — that turned me off. I really didnt like the occasional shedding of the suede lining on my other vintage ones (I was the original owner of most of them. Funny they didn’t bother me at first). Maybe it only happened to the bags I got. I am glad you don’t have these issues and enjoy your vintage bags.

Cute! I have the dark pink Pennie coin case (not sure what it is called), and I love the cute vibe of it (like your bag).

You are not completely alone. I did vintage for a bit, and I tried to embrace the suede, but it annoyed me. Mostly because I always wondered if it was clean (even after really cleaning it). I like materials I can wipe out or clean easily. All of my bags were fine but I didn't end up keeping any of them over time. I just got out of my vintage stage I guess. Now I have no interest in it at all, lol!

My top picks are pony express, safari and ranch bag. They've made newer versions of the pony and safari a few years ago but they were ridiculously small. I want them in a usable size.

If you are looking at vintage, why not consider some of the Ergos?

Be prepared - vintage bags are generally heavier.
