Influencers and Hermes

Does anyone else feel like social media has sort of ruined the Birkin bag? You see it everywhere on all these tacky ‘influencers’ - even if these bags are fake there’s still some major brand dilution. I have a couple of birkins from my mom, but am afraid to wear them out because their symbolic meaning seems to be conspicuous consumption and ‘flex’ culture now
Yes definitely! And tacky is the right word! Thats why it was disappointing to see some like a -Fine Jewellery SA who jist left FSH- went from educating us about Hermès to a dancing a wanna be influencer posing with other tacky influencers..it was soo tasteless! She used have class!
The Hermès brand has been def been tarnished by this type of crowd, unfortunately. The brand is supposed to represent luxury...not be like the LV NeverFull Tote! LoL.
As another member pointed out Hermès is paying attention to social media, so hopefully they are cleaning house, especially with the SAs and I actually thik long term these tacky influencers will not be able to afford their madeup lifestyle as the resell market will slow down.

I truly believe it's all in the way you style the bag, and the wearer's personal style (WE wear the bag...the bag shouldn't wear us). If the person's style leans more... err... tacky, then yeah, the Birkin is going to look tacky. But if worn with a more classic or elegant outfit, it will take on that look. My style leans more preppy-casual; the dark-neutral color of my Birkin finishes off my overall look vs BEING the focus of my look. I think that where some of these influencers and people who mimic these people get it wrong: these bags serve a purpose (to carry all of our junk lol), and are meant to complement the style of the person... not be the only style element.

TL;DR - no, I don't think the Birkin Bag is tacky. When in doubt, channel Jane Birkin.

If someone is seeing 'tacky influencers' on Insta, TT etc. Change your clicking/liking habit and it'll alter the algorithms. IMO, every lux brand (high fashion, alternative, anti-fashion, conceptual, streetwear etc all included) have been coopted and corrupted by influencers, of course H is not immune.

No way am I going to be chased away from a brand I love and invested in because a few publicity-loving individuals are flexing on SM. Let the entire world flex and pose if that's what's in this week. We should be strong, flexible and have enough stamina to cope. :sunnies:

Seeing that Miss F has now posted in the forum to provide her side - as a forum member - wouldn't further discussion about her character cross into territory that violates forum TOS/rules? Just a thought.
Isn't the whole point of a forum is to dicuss and provide thoughts? An observation of tackniess is now a violation?
There may be a fine line crossed by commenting on Miss F

Yes fair point! I actually think the pandemic unfortunately fueled alot of this behavior..lets hope for the best for the future!

I only mentioned forum rules because an earlier discussion about an influencer who also happened to be a forum member resulted in moderators stepping in to stop the back-and-forth.

No offense taken. Seriously.
Appreciate the heads up! And I certainly apologize for any misinterpretation
on my end! I have no clue of what transpired from the other influencer. I do think bullying is one thing and observations are another. I hope TPF can still be a continued safe space for free and open minded, discussion for all!

Hermès has been the "flavor of the month" for the last few years due to everyone being cooped up with lots of extra disposable funds, and nowhere to spend it except for online stores and the few luxury brands that reopened. With life almost back to normal, the people who overindulged with luxury (who couldn't normally afford it) will start to move away or back to brands within their budgets. Flexing brand-new from the boutique Hermès when a person really can't afford it isn't sustainable long-term.

It'll all even out in the end. If shoppers really love Hermès, just keep shopping with the brand and try to ignore the noise. Influencers be damned. :flowers:

(I only follow the influencers who match my style, just to discover new ways of wearing Hermès and other designers.)

Well said! And to you your point, BOF just posted an article discussing this topic. These type of buyers are called "Aspirational shoppers". Buyers who originally propped up the luxury industry during the pandemic however no longer can afford to do so..they can maybe afford to buy a luxury item once a year or so but not part of the wealthy clientele. I am not sure if posting a link is allowed but its on BOF website and Insta. Good article!

LMFAO ! Shots fired , lol and I love it here in TPF ! Nothing but facts was stated . Hermes need to clean house, when these SA’s behaves in this unprofessional way . These D list influencers dress like ragamuffins and tell lies about “ how to score a quota bag “ it’s a bunch horse$$$$ !

I still have love for the B/K/C bags because , it’s always been a dream to purchase one but I don’t like to play the Hermès game or kissing A$$ and only god know what else to get a bag ! I really enjoy having these conversations and I hope in the future Hermes will be across the board for all consumers who want to purchase bags , and put a end to “the im better than you because I have a larger following and I can Dm a Hermes SA and get appt” This trend needs to be stopped asap !

Is this a “secret” we got to learn for free? It was on the T’s reels suggesting that home, jewelry and watches are the best categories to spend on if you want to speed up a bag offer (because these categories are less popular). But seems like they’re not…
