Influencers and Hermes

Again, I think it’s an addiction to having something someone else can’t get. I don’t think they come from a wealthy background, I feel it may be the opposite. They came from little and now have a way, and in some cases not the means, but a credit card that can buy them into what they perceive as the popular group. And social media is now the platform that gives them the place to show off. A lot of influencers come off as little people who need to be seen by other little people. I totally understand wanting to have a B or K, but the need to have multiple of the same in different colors to put them on display behind you while you talk about spending tens of thousands of dollars makes them trophies. IMHO.
While sometimes it’s fun to watch influencers talk about bags and what they bought this is the dark side of social media that often does not get discussed. I hope these people who are compensating for whatever issues they have by shopping seek the help they need before it’s too late.

What an excellent point! It seems like there is some level of mental health and or emotional issues and possibly addiction tied into this with some h influencers bc they sometimes say I feel guilty or I shouldn’t have spent this much or I overspent or they’re reselling bags they like or doing large vlog sales. Here’s an example of an h youtuber who admits overspending. This one looks to be constantly shopping at H and at several different boutiques. What’s most interesting is her level of shopping looks even more out of control after this video. View attachment 5999329
Which channel is this, if you don’t mind sharing ?

Curiosity got the better of me and I went to watch Meredith’s videos.

She has a great smallish collection of 7 Hermes bags - B25 x 3 - barenia, ostrich, picnic, K25 x 1, Pico x 2 and 1 x MK. That’s hardly what most seasoned H collectors would describe as VIP.

Don’t get me wrong. This is not a case of sour grapes from me. I love Meredith’s collection. She probably has a more expansive collection of Hermes RTW, FJ, watches etc that we aren’t seeing. I’m just pointing out that she perhaps didn’t know what to expect in terms of spend during a VIP appointment in Paris.
Agree she did not know what to expect. You are missing quite a few of her H bags in your list. Plus the truck loads of money she spends on other things there to try and get VIP status. They invite her to events and send her gifts. What exactly that means, I do not know. I'm still packing for my Hermes journey! 😁

Forgot to mention she also has a special order Birkin. Each video, the bags behind her are just a few from her nearly 500 (500!) bag collection of LV, Fendi, Hermes, and Chanel.

Let's keep it light if that's ok?:happydance:I don't want to discuss strangers' medical and (perceived) mental problems
I agree we should try to avoid (including myself) being armchair doctors and psychiatrists. However, I think there is a need to talk about how Influencers and social media influence consumption. This trend seems to be especially notable with Hermes Influencers due to pre-spend.

I'm new here and certainly not suggesting things should be always deep and group therapy. But I think, as the forum is "Hermes Influencers" it should be ok mention when influencers may be promoting questionable consumption habits.

Just my two cents as a newbie. Maybe I'm wrong. 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is how I feel. The level of consumption is very unhealthy especially if the influencers are openly admitting it is causing issues in their finances or their marriage (which technically isn’t our business until they make it our business by willingly sharing the information). If anything, I think diving into the psychology of the addiction is more so granting them a certain level of grace for the circumstances.

For those interested, Meredith had 19 Hermes bags as of December 2023 (it said 19 on the thumbnail, I didn't count!). She did a complete Hermes bag collection video called "My Entire Hermes Bag Collection - Collectionmas Day 3"

Thanks for sharing! I had great fun looking at all the eye candies. 🩷🩷. I stand corrected on my assmt that her Hermes bag collection is hardly VIP-ish. But maybe in Australia, their barrier to entry is low?

It’s interesting to hear Meredith alluding to her VIP status in this video (VIP Xmas party) and the other video on her “VIP status” and “VIP appt” at FSH repeatedly. What I find so different about her and the other Hermes IGers eg Rinyks, Stellaw2021, m.t.l1968 and influencers like EC24 & Bryanboy etc is that ppl don’t go around name dropping VIP VIP VIP left right centre. Rinyks is my fav. That’s what I’ll call a VIP Hermes influencer. In comparison, she makes Meredith look like a newbie collector.

Oh my gosh, yes! Thank you! That is exactly what gets to me. She's like a "VIP" bobble head doll. Just show me your bags woman! That's all I care about. 😁
