Influencers and Hermes

I would like your insight on something that has me confused. YouTuber and IG Influencer, Claire Chanelle, is a big fan of Hermes and pretty regularly obtains Birkins and Kellys from her local Hermes boutique, which I think is in London. Claire has an amazing Hermes collection and I enjoy her frequent unboxings. In the last few years, she started working for/with the reseller, Luxury Promise. She is listed online as their "Creative Director & Head of Growth." As close as her relationship is with her Hermes SA, they must be aware that she works for a reseller who sells new and preloved Birkins and Kellys, including the hardest to come by bags like the mini-Kelly. I just watched one of their livestreams on YouTube this morning, and they had a lot of the most sought-after bags available for sale. I got the impression many of them were brand new based on the pricing. They were asking just under $30,000 for a mini-Kelly. Luxury Promise also sells bags via their online website. The reason I am confused is I thought Hermes was against reselling, especially bags that are new/fresh from the boutique, but this doesn't seem to have had any effect on Claire obtaining new bags from her local Hermes. Does this mean Hermes doesn't frown on resellers now? Maybe Hermes policies have changed, and they no longer mind selling to customers who work for resellers?
I think Hermes is very aware of resellers especially in UK .Lots of consignment stores sell brand new stuff .I don't think Hermes really cares ,I also heard some Sas are hand in glove with the resellers .

I have wondered about this often. About SAs knowingly working with re-sellers.

I have also wondered if the umpteen bags the influencers seem to get would dwindle because of the lawsuit.

I hope so ,but untill the demand becomes less ,influencers turn their attention to other luxury house and bags are on the shelves ,doubt the resellers will stop .

@BirKineSS @kmat I noticed that all the pieces Tamara was trying on in the episode I watched (her 'haul?') had strings attactched to them connected to labels denoting that those items could not be returned if these strings were cut.
That tells me she was purely trying them on for content and had no intention of actually keeping them...I suspect they were sent by Net-a-Porter or the like for product placement/PR.

After the success of her Paris road map now she is offering 10 tips to avoid burning bridges with Hermès for the low price of $27.

I've always been perplexed by the fact that Hermes (seemingly) continues to sell to Tania? I would think that her roadmaps, guides, and so forth would be a turn off to the brand and that she might be burning a bridge with them by trying to make money off of their game. What do others think?

Great point. I personally think H eats pages like Tania’s up. She’s still encouraging viewers to spend money, and not just spend in one store but spend in multiple stores across the world for years. The whole thing is a bit slimy, though, and IMO do take away from the allure of the brand a bit.

There are some other waaay more vulgar influencers (with actually very inappropriate content) who are still offered bags in store, so IMO they’ve got bigger fish to fry than someone selling roadmaps if they care about social media presence.

Unpopular opinion :

Influences are not who they pretend to be : They can look very wealthy but not be !

I had the occasion due to my work to see several super fake Hermes bags, I compared with my real ones and see no to very minimal differences ! Those are sold in ASIA and UAE mainly for few thousands dollars ! Even the leather comes from same suppliers as Hermes !

One of my relatives also almost bought a real bag at double of store price (b25) full set with receipt but actually it was a fake one … real receipt with real bag but people have a fake made with same serial number.

The point is : Be careful with what you see online, maybe those influencers wear 90% of fakes !
Also : be careful when buying through resellers, even with receipt and good hermes knowledge, you never know !

She also has hauls from MyTheresa that have tags on as well..

Can't say I've ever seen tags present on any Hermes items that she has shown on her feeds, including the approx. $10k etoupe leather coat she just purchased.

I would assume most influencers who are posting unboxing try on videos are doing just that, unboxing and trying on the items for their audience and going over their first impressions. I personally don't remove tags until I am absolutely sure I am keeping the piece and I would assume they act similar to us - keep what works and return what does not.

I'm shocked at what happened to her nata epsom birkin though (leather/color rubbed off the handles). Hopefully H can replace the handles and it doesn't happen again.

I think there is a lot of repeat of the same videos and pictures. Maybe the US boutiques are happy to take her money for now, but one can ask when was the last time she got a QB in Paris ;)

I agree - she could be worst compared to other influencers. She buys from Hermes directly, reuses her bags, does not resale, and does not disclose Hermes SA info.

Those endless bag reveals when YouTube, TikTok and reels all dedicated to one bag and its “story” are so tacky. It’s all for the content and many influencers turned to Hermès bags because they don’t have any other talent. For the majority of people, a 10k bag that you can’t even purchase is some crazy things rich people do. For those few who appreciate Hermès, it’s obvious that the influencers are doing it just to attract following and monetize their socials. I used to watch those bag reveals to enjoy the leather/color combinations some of which I’ve never seen before. But I don’t need to sit there and listen to the entire War and Peace Hermes edition with a Kelly being a main character. It’s just a bag and if you are well off, there are many channels via which you can get a Hermès bag without hassle. Social media is indeed the land of mediocracy.
