Influencers and Hermes

What's going on with IG lately? I'm losing accounts that I have followed for years. A lot of luxury content is being taken down even it's your own purchase. Influencers are getting suspended or shadow-banned.
IKR! I've noticed that as well lately. One instance was the instagram account, Hermes Bon Bon. I really like that account for the daily drop notifications and the product references on some products. Thank god it's back up and running now.

Instagram changed its content moderation policies recently. It's not just Hermès. Lots of shadowbanning of accounts and also of commenters who appear to be advertising. Insta wants people to pay for an actual ad placement if something seems to be an ad or leans toward selling something. They are also enforcing copyright more stringently after brands complained/litigated, and have a new system of flagging supposed copyright and/or trademark violations.

She is absolutely right about the “Hermes’” game played now

I love her content. She is so personable and level headed.

I appreciate her discussing the taboo topics like this one. I am glad she brought up the male-dominated "games" as well.

I think she's right -- Hermes's appeal is that it is not only exclusive but also said to be the creme-de-la-creme of luxury (specifically hand bags). Of course there's a bit of ego boost conscious or subconscious of being able to acquire the items. But there's also a decent amount of consumers who are simply fashion lovers and strive to acquire the best in everything. I was always obsessing over purses and outfits even on my Barbie dolls as a child.

The only thing I wish she would have covered is whether she thinks someone's resources play a role. Do personal financial circumstances contribute to making the experience more or less stressful? Is someone with nearly unlimited resources stressing out about their Birkin or Kelly offer? Or are they just dropping their couple hundred thousand dollars and enjoying the benefits of having the red (orange - LOL) carpet rolled out for them every-time they enter the store? I am inclined to think the more you have, the less stressed the experience makes you (and if you are going resale, the less big of a deal it is to buy a bag prices 3x the retail price). But of course, I could understand Caitlin's perspective of the psychological games could impact someone of any net worth.

You make really great points here! Like these days (and the many influencers flaunting it), do they actually like the handbag (craftsmanship, style etc) or do they like the status it brings?

"the more you have, the less stressed the experience makes you" - I always wonder about this. If someone have unlimited cash to burn on prespend, do they even bother? (like the Singaporean lady on insta) And do they try to please their SA as much as other people do (like purseonfleek as an example). I wonder but I guess I will never know!

Right! I even notice a lot of the Youtubers who make complaint videos usually complain more about their spend amount and not having a bag yet, as opposed to complaining about something else about the brand., which makes me think part of extra stress is financially. (Which is understandable given some are at 4-5x prespend with no bag, but still. There are technically no promises in the H game, even if you spend 10:1.)

I reckon it is the financial side of things. You are not wrong in saying there is no guarantee with Hermes. Someone could be buying all the bits and bobs and not even getting th bag offer. It's a very expensive hobby to do the whole "hermes game"!

Birkins are portrayed as The Ultimate Luxury Bag. And it’s a beautiful bag, hand made out of exquisite materials.

But at the end of the day, it’s a big tote bag with a weird clasp that can only be hand carried.

If you aren’t a tote person, you’re going to hate it. If you like shoulder bags, ditto. If you like a little more security in your bag closures - Birkin isn’t for you.

I felt a little let down when I first got my Kelly. Because I had gotten caught up in the elegance of vintage photos, and was shopping for my imaginary self rather than my real human life. And somehow, the bag didn’t give me the elegance of Grace Kelly, or the grace of Audrey Hepburn, or the je ne sais quoi of Catherine Deneuve. They were all things I had to find within myself.

So a Birkin is a beautiful thing. But it’s just a thing. Sometimes it takes the folly of owning it before you realize it, however
A good reminder.

Конечно маркетинговый ход и очень даже действенный. Мне кажется этим методом пользуются многие бренды, сейчас главные рекламщики это блогеры
