And then get accused of cultural insensitivity and haughtiness and what not.

Chinese New Year is a global phenomenon at this point and totally commercialized and anyone can partake without actually caring one bit about the deeper meaning of any of it... Just like Christmas where in in most cases, people do not give a damn about the Christ in ChristMass but only focus on the food, the partying, the tree, thee music and of course the gifts.
I beg to differ. I’m not going to go down a rabbit hole discussion about cultural insensitivity because that’s often a waste of time. But I will speak to Chinese new year being a global phenomenon. First it’s not Chinese new year because multiple other Asian countries celebrate and we all celebrate in different ways. So not just anyone can partake in it.

And fyi there are billions of religious people in this world who do give a damn about the Christ in Christmas and don’t just celebrate it with trees and decor.

You're right, such discussions usually lead nowhere.
However "Chinese" New Year is all over the place here now regardless of what Asian people think of it. The push is clearly commercial, unfortunately, but also administrative (governments & all: Diversity and inclusion) and there is almost no way to escape it. It is getting shoved onto people regardless and escaped the gates of Chinatown long ago. I get dragged into it even though I have no cultural connection to it at all. Should I be rude and refuse? And why anyways when it is all in good fun and good spirit...?
People all over the place DO partake around here while clearly not caring about any deeper meaning: it's all fire crackers, good food, street festivities, decorations etc.
Same with Christmas. It's all cultural phenomenon (and merchandising occasion) for the greater society. I am in Church not just at Christmas but also the rest of the year; the differential in attendance simply confirms the point: cultural phenomenon that businesses are monetizing.
Just stating observable facts, not any opinion btw.

I think some of the frustration here is Hermes giving her them to begin with while telling other clients (some of who are Asian and do actually celebrate) there are none left OR telling other non Asian clients that these envelopes are only reserved for Asian clients, when that’s obviously not truthful if this lady got ahold of them. It’s just the consistent inconsistencies across stores and SAs, same frustrations around why do influencers get offered bags and event invites quicker than others etc. I think it’s the inconsistency with EVERYTHING that annoys all of us here - but that also seems to be the way H likes to operate, sooo. Goes back to the main Q, do influencers, even those with small pages, get special treatment?

Answer yes: they get waived the pre-spend plus get special access.
All of this though is enabled by the Hermès regular clientele's submissiveness.

Ok, so not an influencer as such (he mainly seems to purchase and enjoy vintage / preowned H). However I love watching Nicolas Arst for H content that isn't just the next 'unboxing / YouTube tag / fad / jumping on the bandwagon'. Not least because I enjoy listening to his pronunciation.. as she pauses said video to practice pronouncing "Cuir" correctly!!

I like him too. He inspired me to truly pause and appreciate my items, rather than focus on collecting. He also made me want a Kelly wallet, but my SA says they only make KTGs now…. so, I’m stalking the resale market for one. (And yes, his accent 😘)

Oh i came across her Hermes story the other day! I also like her vibe. She mentioned she thinks she got her bag so quickly because of the bright color. Bright colors are hard to move at my home store too. My SA said it can be hard to find a client who really likes pink.

As for the red envelopes, personally I think they’re very cute but as I don’t celebrate I would decline. Maybe her SA offered because they had some extra after offering to clients who do celebrate. Maybe just also as a nice gesture since she just shelled out on a diamond bracelet? Idk
I like her Hermes story and I feel her "journey" is how newbies are advised to go about it. Develop an organic relationship with an SA, by what you love, be pleasant, enjoy yourself, don't be pushy and your bag will follow.

Thanks for sharing this video. It was great!

I love how informative he is on the specifics and small details. I checked out some of his other content too and hes very well versed in the world of Hermes. Definitely worth a watch!

I was going to mention this...
It was a really enjoyable watch.
I like Bliss Foster in fact his are the only style vlogs I watch on a regular basis

I don't know why I happened to click on this thread, because the idea of an 'influencer' is distasteful? although we are all influenced by that to which we are exposed. I had caught Bliss Foster on YouTube and consider him as someone interested in fashion - an historian or chronicler - not someone whose aim is to impact on the choices of others.
I can understand why Max wanted to bring him to the attention of the forum.

But he does truly not fit with this thread

From my understanding H invite them for their Runway shows and pays for their flights and accommodation but doesn't pay them for attending.

Just like any other fashion brand does.
Paying your expenses IS paying you. It is payment in kind rather than in cash but is is still payment. Tax-wise, accounting-wise, you need to declare it as income.

Some brands do pay these influencers to attend these shows/events including paying fully for their accommodation. From Hermè's point of view, these influencers are benefiting from attending their event and not the other way around so they don't need to pay them anything.

Except, of course, for the accommodation, transportation expenses, meals etc. which IS payment all the same. And of course, the infamous pre-spend waving nobody wants to acknowledge... When the PR team contacts you to come and get a bag without having to jump through all the hoops, you've just been "offered" quite some money...
And finally... when influencers formally put in their bios that they do work with Hermès, something tells me that they are actually getting paid real money on top of all the above for actual professional services. Just my opinion of course.

I guess hairsplitting about it makes some people feel better...

I agree. Travel and accommodations is payment.
