Or maybe these sandal designs are actually not original to Hermès, but they themselves are simply copying some old traditional design that some people have been wearing forever somewhere, and they know they'll get crushed in court so they don't even try...
Just maybe...

Honestly, I wish they would sue, just for the fun of watching the sh*tshow that would ensue...

Edit: If that can be of any help, maybe the name of these sandals could be a clue, you know Oran as in the city Oran (Wahrane) in Algeria, or Chypre as in Cyprus, the island... Ahem...
Cultural appropriation much...
Lawyer here and same. Fashion lawsuits are NOTORIOUSLY tricky and H probably realizes it’s not worth it. That said, if dupes become ubiquitous then I think we’ll see a move away from the Chypre by the brand.
Seem to remember from years ago that Hermes had a lawsuit against Steven Stolman for
selling a rubber copy of the Birkin bag for $145 .. so I guess Hermes has to think it is worth it
to pursue a suit ..

Just saw an influencer post about the Steve Madden Chypre “dupe” so ICK. How does that company not get sued? They are a blatant knock off.

They also have oran dupes too...looks exactly like it...I also wonder why they don't get sued. I guess if the proportions arent identical then it doesnt matter?

My husband sent me links to the Steve Madden Orans, and in an effort to prove to him that they are TOTALLY different and the Orans are well worth the money :P, I did a comparison and there are visible differences between the original and the knock offs. For starters, they don’t use contrast stitching on the black and gold pair. I’d imagine that’s enough to discourage any potential lawsuit.

PS: This was all in good fun, my husband understands the value of intellectual property. He still gets a kick out of sending me links to knockoffs though  “look your bag/shoes/dress are on sale for $xxx”

Besides there being visible differences, the Hermes Orans are made in Italy, Steve Madden's are made in Mexico
H uses natural leather for the H cutout as well as the heel & goatskin for the insole & lining to match the color of the Oran
Madden's sole is synthetic rubber, so yes many differences & for me the Orans are a staple in
spring/summer shoe wardrobe & in spite of the price increase, cost per wear works out to be well worth the price
so I'm with you on this @benjinito & appreciate the chuckle your DH shares..

First 5 seconds: 38 min video on Hermes? Ridiculous. Who has this kind of time to watch about any brand?

First 5 minutes: I'm not that into RTW, I'll probably lose my interest...

38 min later, me telling my husband: so yeah, Hermes really is such a superior luxury in the way it does things. In this day and age where most brands are focused on cutting cost and efficiency, Hermes is really unique that it focuses on perfecting its craft. It perfected its craft in leathermaking, then moved to perfecting the craft of bags, then whimsical things and clothes, etc etc.

Thanks for sharing! So informative. Really makes me appreciate every bits of craftsmanship more.

Anyone feeling a slight tinge of happiness that more and more youtubers are getting on the ‘my Hermes journey is over’ bandwagon?
I noticed this too! I am happy a the obsession is cooling down, and people are focusing more on their consumption.. I hope it trickles down into IG/tiktok as well though.. I feel most of the youtubers had a genuine interest in luxury and the brand.. whereas IG is just full of fake bags and those trying to 'flex' status and wealth making bags feel "mainstream"

I’m probably more cynical but I think they are just producing videos that the algorithm likes. I think they won’t actually change at all. It’s just that YouTube loves financial resolutions at this time of year. We’ll see the shopping content pick back up ahead of Vday sales period.

I think the economy has definitely created a need for this type of content because so many folks are struggling, and at the end of the day just because people watch luxury youtube doesn't mean they have an excess of designer items or wealth themselves. So I totally see what Crapples is saying. I agree these content creators typically aren't the most genuine, either.. It is almost as if not spending big is a "trend" right now. Regardless, I hope that the trend puts things into perspective.
