Influencers and Hermes

The only thing that ever helped "influence" me was TPF  I have said before and I'll say it again.. I saved for my Birkin for almost a decade. Along the way I bought some other goodies..but that was always the "big" one for me. IDGAF what someone posts on IG. It's like everything else on social, photo shopped, fake and misleading. I'm just on it for the eye candy.

That's actually a great point and worth thinking about. I guess it will be part of my self discovery journey - - what style I want that will be my "timeless" fashion and whether considering a birkin or Kelly as my end goal is really for me or if I'm maybe a Moynat or Delvaux or Valextra woman
This resonates with me. I am glad it took me so long to be able to dip my toes into Hermes because now, I know my style, my needs, and my habit. If I started earlier, it would just be an expensive experiments or wasted experience. I imagine it would be different for people with more resources to experiment at this level.

Anyway, to keep on topic, influencers for me are like old fashioned magazines: get inspired (or not), flip through but don’t think too much of what goes on behind the screen.

Yes Yes Yes!
In fact I'm going to add that I am my my own 'influencer'.
I dont want to aspire to anyone else's idea of 'the perfect-life'....I follow my own dreams.
I wear what I wear because I like it and I don't give two hoots about whatever celebrity buys into the brand...In fact I find it a turn off when a sales associate in a boutique says "XXXXX brought this dress" or "XXXX was photographed in this.. we sold out immediately and just restocked"...just yuk!

That's really why I'm asking questions about it. To make sure I'm not just getting influenced because I kept seeing it on social media or if it really speaks to me because it also represents a part of my personality. I'm a working woman. I'm a mum. I'm a wife. I'm an introvert. I like watching crime dramas. I love coffee. I rarely wear black. I wear dresses (absolutely love zimmerman and shona Joy). I am a sentimental person. So when I pick things I need it to speak to me. So far in doing that, I very rarely have buyers regret so I feel money is well spent!

Yes! This! I love colored diamonds and almost bought a green one recently, then my Graff SA tells me that since J. Lo, greens have skyrocketed in popularity. I have nothing against J. Lo, she's great, but I can't imagine choosing something so esoteric because a celebrity did.
I think of Hermés as so classic and so well-known and the opposite of trendy, but I suppose there are actually a lot of people who only know the brand through a celebrity or an influencer. Kinda wild.

There are a lot of obnoxious influencers out there that flaunt their money and obscene lifestyles. I'm not sure if they're trying to create a niche of non-working sugar babies. IMHO, it's gauche -- not to mention a target for burglaries. I rarely feature my H bags on my social media accounts. It's just not a practice I'm comfortable with. The world is too crazy right now.

My DH because he knows of my interest/obsession with Hermès often unearths a youtube for me to watch that he thinks I may enjoy.
Last night I made the schoolgirl error of actually watching "I Vlogged my Hermes leather appointment' by someone called double vanilla (The clue is in her chosen name I suppose)...
It was THE most boring, repetitive, self important irritating thing I've ever watched.
I had to keep fast forwarding, For instance about 10 minutes if not longer of her filming herself in a mirror talking about what she wore to her appointment (meh!)
Then in the actual appointment endlessly looking at the same 3 bags repeating Kelly 25, Kelly 28, this is the 25, this is the 28 and on and on and on...I couldn't say how long this went on for I fast forwarded to her leaving the store with her purchases repeating again and again "I dont believe it! I dont believe it" or words to that effect-
Honestly If I'd been the SA I would have said "ok.. you've seen the bags please make a decision or I'll have to offer them to one of the next appointments "-Made me also realise WHY appointment times keep changing-probably due to idiots like this spending hours gazing at themselves in a mirror holding a bag.
At this point I said to my husband "I cant stand this...lets just turn the damn thing off"
I feel a mug for actually wasting what time I did watching this rubbish but I like to at least fein interest because its sweet of DH to find these things for me.
I'm sorry if anyone actually loves these sorts of vlogs But personally I found it nauseating.
a bit show-offy, and lacking in style.
I became a fan of the brand because I found it stylish and tasteful.
This video was the opposite to both those things.
Rant over...

I watched something similar but at FSH. So excited, bla bla bla. Shot of herself in front of the mirror with people buzzing around behind her.

The I got curious. I wanted to ask those who have visited FSH: do you see a lot of these influencers around while shopping at FSH? Do they bother you by getting in the way or hogging the mirror?

From what I read FSH is already a hectic place. If there are tens of these influencers around, I would have imagined, they woube disruptive somehow yet tolerated by the shop management.

I'd feel bad for the SA. Honestly, I'm the type who asks all my dumb questions online so when I get to the store, I don't muck around. Time is money. And I agree that the SA could be servicing other buyers in the time that someone is being super indecisive. And it sucks tif that person who took so much time didn't buy anything as well. I personally don't like the youtuber Romina. I dunno. I got weird vibes from her. But I think it's just me. I just feel like she goes to stores to take videos.

I watched this too a few weeks back. It showed up on my feed as a suggestion - I agree, it was a rookie effort at best.
