I’m getting my Chanel bag painted!

Is your Chanel bag damaged? I had (or maybe still have) YSL Downtown tote that my local cobbler handled, right in front of me without permission with brown leather polish on his hands. A perfect beautiful ivory bag. He ruined it, and further ruined it attempting to undo his stupidity. I had to send it off to a specialist to attempt repair. It looked fine, but I knew it had put through the ringer, I was sick and angry. Anyway, I always thought to ask an artist friend to paint an image of some sort and just use it. But a perfectly kept bag, no. I need to see if I've sold it (with disclosure - I had listed to sell). I can't remember. But if I still have it, I'm revisiting the idea. Good luck and do share the results.

Brown fingerprints on an ivory bag ::shudder::

My Chanel was pretty dirty when I purchased it (pre-owned), but I had it cleaned.

The bright pink color of the bag already makes it non-versatile, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to customize it with a fun design.

Won't hurt, just make sure the painting/art is something you love, or you love the usual end result of the painter/artist. I was going to ask my artist to just do their thing. Now you have me down for looking through my bag closet. And, yes, the brown finger marks on my ivory bag made me sick. Ive known that cobbler all my life, and was shocked - he is getting up there in age, I actually felt bad for him too. I will never even walk in there with a bag now, cause he likes them, and is obviously too handsy. Its been several years since this happened.

It’ll be exciting to see what your artist comes up with. Please post pics if you find your bag and get it painted!

i had my LV painted two years ago. worst decision ever. i hate the print now and can't get it off without ruining the bag. i admire you doing this, but from my own experience the excitement over the painting/print lasted maybe 6 months and i was then ... wth have i done?!

That’s terrible! I’ve seen some really great customized LVs and Goyards on Instagram. Can you post a pic of your bag?

This is quite funny - i was online when this thread was JUST started and I was about to be the first one to comment and then I told myself no, kat no, you dont wanna be the one saying OMFG ARE U SERIOUS - wait and see, if they all love it u dont wanna be the jerk :-s:biggrin:

on a serious note I believe this COULD turn out very pretty. if the thread starter had a strong love for butterflies or whatnot and likes prints than this could be really nice!

the one thing that scared me was the horrific quality of the mock-up. I feel like if you trust somebody to handpaint a bag, please not only let them have tons of proven reveiws and work to show but let them be able to make a mock up that will show what the customer can expect. Therefore, from the kindest place in my heart, I pray that this persons painting skills offline are better than their painting skills/digital sketching skills online. im sure it will be lovely and you didnt make an easy decision on a whim.

LOVE the pink lambskin bag btw, im drooling..

Wow. This makes me nervous! :whut:

Does butterflies have some special kind of meaning to you? Or did you just like the print?

Do you love the colors of the butterflies? And the color combination together with the pink?

Are these the kind of colors and pictures that you usually gravitate towards? Have you had this idea for a long time or is it a spur of the moment?

Just asking, are you SURE?

I loved the Gucci blooms print when it first was released, I though the pink one was the most beautiful print and color combination ever... I thought about buying a bag in that print, but ended up just getting a big shawl/stola with the blooms, and bought the bag in the neutral GG supreme pattern, and I am SO glad that I did because I would be so over that print on a bag by now! And would probably just end up wearing it once a year or not at all... Like the shawl that I have never worn out even once... Still love it though!

But this IS such a cute idea, and I do love when people make things personalized! It's so much more charmig than just a pink Chanel like any other. I just ask because personally I am way too indecisive and changeable for any big, permanent changes, it would end up as a catastrophy if I would ever even think about doing anything like this!

Good luck with your new design, I'm looking very much forward to seeing the end result! :hbeat:

PS: I truly admire creatively brave people!

I know, I’m a jerk.

OP, it is your bag so obviously you should do what you wish. When I saw your post, I decided to google it to see if this was a thing. It is apparently a thing. This is not something I’d ever do (particularly on a bag that cost several thousand), unless my bag had such a rough exterior it was unsightly, then I might consider it. But even then - I don’t think I could accept such a mock-up, as Katlina said above. It’s supposed to be painted right?? She photoshopped butterflies onto a photo of the bag. So, I truly hope she has actual examples of her completed work and that you are not going off of this alone.

Maybe if I was Mariah Carey I’d get butterflies painted on my Chanel. On that note, lots of luck!

To this point, I’m also not a fan of the art. But again - this is your bag!

LOL no worries! I knew this wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, so I anticipated a few “Oh God NOs!!!”

Thank you!

I just thought it would look pretty. I could’ve done something more personal to me, but I couldn’t thing of anything. I guess I just want to be free like a butterfly?

Have you had this idea for a long time or is it a spur of the moment?

I’ve been thinking about doing this since last year. I waited because I try to space out large expenses.

It's so much more charmig than just a pink Chanel like any other.

Exactly!

Not my style, but good for you for sticking to what you like and being creative.
I will never tell someone “don’t do that” when they’ve paid good money for their items.

But please do sleep on it and make sure you want to go through with it.
It’s human nature to want to try something fun, new, and trendy. But it’s also human nature to get bored and fall out of love with it very quickly.
If you reallyyyyy want to have it done, I’d change the butterflies a little. I would have each butterfly look different vs the color and pattern of them being repeated.
