I agree with most of what you said, very well written. The thing that you may not understand not being in America, is the discrimination goes both ways in this country especially in the south. Majority/minority doesn't matter to you when you are being discriminated against. Not sure if Iggy feels discriminated against or not but I feel she is blatantly being targeted for her skin color. I don't think a minority has anymore right to be racist or say racist things than a non minority, its all so disturbing to be hung up on someone's color/race in this day in age. I know some will argue thats not the case, but if the roles were reversed it would be a whole other story. BTW, I'm not going to argue whether Iggy is a "street cred" rapper, but she does rap and is "pop"ular as far as record sales.
You seem to totally want this to be about skin color and it isn't. If it were about skin color for me I would SAY it's about skin color, I wouldn't hold back because I don't mince my words. Read the poster Charles' reply above your own, that's a great summary of the issue. But I'm sure you'll find a way to make it all about race again.

ugh! It has zero to do with her skin color! And no, if the roles were reversed it wouldn't be the same. Darius rucker is black and sings country music. He was raised in the south and grew up in that environment. He's not trying to be something he's not. I've never heard any disparaging remarks about him being fake.

+1

Oh I agree that racism and discrimination is wrong regardless, whether you're white and discriminating against black people or vice versa! But that wasn't really my core point... I was trying to say that I think that minorities can get away with different (and perhaps more) things as a group. Especially when these minorities were oppressed in the past - as is usually the case I'm sure. I have an example that I (not being American) find interesting: imagine if there was a magazine like Ebony, specifically targeted at white people, with only white people on the cover. I'm confident that would cause major issues.

EDIT: I wanted to add that people generally think that it is not necessary to have media that appeal to "your group" when you are part of a majority. These types of differences come natural in countries with many ethnicities...

I understood your point and agree with it, again very well written.;)

Exactly my point though, no one cares as it should be about his skin color.

They don't care because he isn't being a FAKE. He isn't MOCKING the genre! Do you actually think you have to be white to enjoy country music or black to enjoy hip hop? Cause if you do that is a whole other discussion you should have with a therapist.

This has nothing to with her being white. It has to do with her being fraud. If all you're getting out of it is boiling it down to her being a white girl rapper and being targeted because she's white, you're totally missing the point. No one is saying that at all and you seem to be hung up on that for some reason. Eminem was embraced from the door because he's a talented rapper. The Beastie Boys are talented rappers. Paul Wall, Mack Miller, MGK...there's a list. You seem to be ignoring the piece where there's an agenda being pushed with Iggy, while ignoring everyone else, in a genre that has fought for respect and has been denigrated, as trash, since its inception. Saying she sucks and that the hip hop community never gave her the title as queen of hip hop is not racist...if you view it as such, then we need to start with what the actual definition of the word 'racism' means. I doubt Iggy feels discriminated against because she stays in her pop lane.

You think iggy is mocking a genre, I do not. She's selling a lot of albums, manufactured or not too bad. I must need a therapist for not sharing your authoritive point of view lol.

That's because you're not aware of how hip hop started, its roots, and what it's truly about, and your denial to respect the opinions of people who grew up listening to it, is mocking in a way too. I'm not sure what you do for a career, or something else you're passionate about, but imagine if I started saying "well, what you do for a lifestyle isn't that important. I mean, I don't get why you enjoy doing it so much" I'm sure you'd come back explaining why you chose it and explain so I might understand the intricacies and nuances so I can appreciate it better. Then after you took the time to do that, I still was like "Eh..whatever. I still don't really care". It's cavalier and somewhat rude. I'm sure you don't think it's that big of a deal, but for a lot of people, hip hop is life. It's their passion and they have very strong feelings about it being taken for granted. Try not to trivialize that.

She sold a lot of albums? How many?
I actually don't think it's been certified gold, in the US, by the RIAA yet. It's gone gold in the UK/AUS. The single Fancy went platinum several times over (3-4x). Someone struggling to get to gold in the US with a one-hit song, makes people think the person is killing album sales.
