If you were to have only one Kelly, sellier or retourne?

thanks 880 for finding all those posts for me!!
I was going through the forum too and IG before heading to the store since I was so set on a retourne and always felt the sellier to be a bit boxy and too formal…but long story short…I fell in love when the SA pulled it out - the color and hardware combo was perfect…and it didn’t look tooo overly formal and I actually think it adds a bit of something to a casual outfits with the sleekness and clean lines. That being said I don’t think this is something I would grab on the go so I’ll probably need to add a retourne one day…‍ lol. Still love the soft Togo leather but can’t say I don’t appreciate how light the epsom is. Can’t wait to try her out with diff outfits!

If it has to be Sellier:

Do not go for black. If a bag has to be formal and structured then at least have it in a fun color, which is going to break down the severity of the lines.

Do not get sellier in a size bigger than 28. It's gonna look like you're a UPS delivery person, carrying a card box.

I am no expert of course. I am only writing based on my experience and some purchases I have made, which are sadly collecting dust at the back of my closet because I never use them.

Hm, fashion trends change - from big to small and definitely once again to big. Apart from that, I think Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn (if I recall correctly they wore at least 32 Kellys or even 35) and many others still represent class today. - Well, of course each to their own taste. Personally, I am also one of those who love their Kellys in 32 ... , one of them Black Box.
And colours are also viewed differently, black was and is simply a classic colour for many and some find a Kelly in pop colours too flashy ot trendy - so many different opinions. In the end, everyone has to decide depending on their needs, e.g. what and how much you want to put in your bag, your wardrobe, body size, frame and much more. How nice that Hermès gives us all a choice.

My Sellier 32 is in Sombrero leather.
My Sellier 28 is Epsom leather.
I love the Sombrero leather for a 32 Sellier because it gives it a softness.
Edit: I now have another K32 Sellier.
I am short: 5’2” (about 159 cm), but feel the size and structure of a 32 Sellier look best on me when wearing heels.

Hi all, I‘m new, and this is my first post.
I second @gettinpurseonal: Sellier 32 (in Epsom, I love it!), Retourne 35 (in Togo, I love it as well!) are the ideal choices for me. The Sellier for more formal occasions, the Retourne for everyday use. The Retourne ist the one I use more, but whenever I take my Sellier I enjoy the feeling of the leather and the elegance of the shape.

Sellier - the more formal look is what I always think of as the Kelly style. My first one was Sellier although I have to say I got a retourne too because of the convenience of the shoulder strap. I have two Kelly Sellier (28 and 25) and one Kelly Retourne (size 25).

I think the retourne more casual vibe is more for the Birkin but that's my opinion. Hence my resistance to the Birkin Sellier. But who knows, maybe after I have collected all I would like for Birkin retourne, I would hope for a Birkin Sellier offer

My advice was based on my own experience. I don’t have any pre-conceived notions regarding handbags and I am willing to try anything and see how it fits my lifestyle and needs. I am actually very surprised that there are so many Sellier lovers out there

A Sellier, especially in a small size is a little too precious/“lady who lunches” for me. My only Kelly is a vintage 1956 Retourne Rouge H Box 35 with imperfections.

Granted I don’t have any “quota”bags just yet (only H bag is the garden party which I love love love), the Kelly in sizes 25 and mini are on my list — both in sellier. I just think the Kelly looks so elegant and timeless in sellier. Whereas the birkin, as others have mentioned, fits the retourne relaxed vibe more.

The only Kellies I'll probably ever own are 35 Sellier. As it is, I have to stuff what I carry in the 35 Sellier I already have. Also, I love the structure of the Sellier.

Love both Sellier and retourne, but if had to choose just one, I would choose Sellier. The structured elegance is divine and it still can be easily dressed down. Good luck deciding!
