If you were to have only one Kelly, sellier or retourne?

Yesterday, my fabulous girlfriends (who aren’t here on tpf) and I were chatting about fashion and style. One topic we had was if we were to only have one kelly, would it be the sellier or retourne regardless the size. It’s been almost 24 hours since and no one has had a solid and clear answer to it. It’s like asking who’s one’s favorite child. Anyway, I want to carry out our conversation onto here so I could share with them what you guys, who may have a more decisive nature towards this topic, think about the two types of construction for the kelly.

Sellier all the way. So crisp and classic.

I would absolutely go with the Sellier because of the stitching detail involved in the design. To me it represents the pinnacle of Hermes leather craftsmanship.

I think it boils down to personal preference. For me, I do love the sellier more. I feel a little more special when I carry them regardless of what I’m wearing.

Sellier. I prefer the structure, especially opening the bag. It feels easier to open a sellier bag vs a retourne. I also like that with a sellier you can always dress it down and be casual... but with a retourne it’s harder to use it for dressier occasions. I’m shocked I feel this way, because before I got a sellier I used to be team retourne all the way.

Retourne all the way. I only like the Sellier in the mini kelly ii. The Retourne shape makes it classy, yet casual. Although the Retourne is already so much more dressy than my outfits in 90% of the time. The Sellier is too formal for my personality, but looks great on others.

I’ve worn a sellier 28 casually on a messenger strap since 2008. DH calls my blue abysse 28 sellier kelly, brushed phw, the sexiest bag in the world

But, everyone is different. Buy whatever you love and will use.

I prefer Sellier but the wife loves her bags to turn into puddles of leather, so retourne wins since she wears the bags.

Retourné, I only prefer crisp edges on kelly pochette or mini styles. I wouldn’t mind a sellier birkin, but if only one then retourné.

I am partial To the Sellier. I have only 1 kelly in my collection- K32 Sellier rouge casaque Gold Hardware and I love it. I love bags with structure and the Sellier Kelly is so elegant and classic.

I would pick sellier but in 25 or at most 28. I like the structure and how versatile the bag can be from day to night, depending on the size and color.
