I have two of the original Legacy Ali bags (black and brown) and it is not supposed to have a serious shine like other leathers. The bag in those photos almost looks wet with whatever the previous owner put on it. I don't believe the bag was ever described as "distressed" by Coach-I think that is the owner's way of saying it is somewhat stained and scratched. Perhaps you should get a soft dry cloth and just gently buff away any excess oil you put on the bag. If you have some where you can take it that might be good but I would stop treating it myself. Good Luck with the bag.
Lovinmybags.com has wonderful leather care products and while expensive they work miracles. They have a product just for restoring shine to a bag and it works great, I've used it to restore some of my Balenciaga bags.
I would definitely stick with products made specifically for leather so you know there is nothing anti-leather friendly like fragrances, coloring etc. that might do more damage or stain.
