I'm not a VIP at VCA to know all the secrets of inventory, but I can share at Chanel, they definitely have a process like that. At select stores (Chanel Beverly Hills is one of them), Chanel has the right to keep an item for 14 days and not ship it out. This is to allow their BH clients first rights to purchase. This means even if a SA sees it in inventory, BH does not have to ship it. I know this because I really wanted an item, and it was at BH. My SA tried to get it but no go. He happened to know the manager at BH and called, and it was finally released as a favor (whatever that means). I did not ask nor did I really wanted to know all the drama, but nevertheless, that's how I found out about the system. That was a couple years ago, so I'm not sure about now, especially since COVID with the new process. For sure though, there is a process to support their regular clients and certainly the VCA VIPs. Even on orders of out of stock items, my VCA SA told me the VIPs get stuff first, then the paid orders, then the "please find one for me" requests. I asked because I wanted to know how long earrings would take which then he told me the order of deliveries. I think it makes sense. If I am a VCA VIP (which I am not) and I am spending $500K-$1M+ a year, I would sure hope I get some priority.
Yes, though I am also just a regular customer, I am given first pass at items coming into the boutique I shop at before it is offered externally, with the understands that often another boutique has asked for the item if I pass on it. Presumably the other customers are given this opportunity, so it may be best to shop at a larger boutique in order to have the most options. I also know that when I used to shop at my local NM, which has subsequently closed, they would primary source their items from a NYC boutique and I would need to wait to see if a client of that boutique wanted the item or not before it could be transferred to my store. For boutique to boutique transfer, the SA needs to put in a request and then see if it is agreed to or not. It is not just an online inventory of all pieces available which they can select from and bring in at will. That is why this thread is such a nice idea!
