How/where do you report website/shops/sellers of fakes/counterfeits?

^^ just my thoughts, it's stealing something or buying a ripped off copy for a cheaper price, plus it's illegal

SO are fake handbags!!

WOW, you are all SHOCKING me with your answers. I must say I thought that you would care more about these people selling thousands of handbags. I mean thousands. It is really sickening. I have tried educating people. Including writing to the local news stations etc. Sorry I am speechless.

^^^ I don't think people were trying to be harsh, it's just difficult to understand why something like this would consume so much of your time. I try to live and let live as much as possible - if the designers don't make it a priority (and many of them don't), then it's certainly not going to occupy space in my life. Why not concentrate your efforts on something more positive, like working with a local charity or animal shelter? At least there your efforts will be appreciated.

its really more up to the designer houses to protect their copyrights. And I support them. But I'm sorry if I think murderers, rapists and child abduction is a more important issue to fight against than me policing illegal handbag manufacturers. I choose my battles. My direct contribution is buying the real deal.
Fake handbags are pretty low on my list of priorities of what I think is more important to pursue.
Like educating people about (and not in any particular order):
  • teen pregnancy
  • STDs
  • animal abuse
  • poverty sticken families
  • genocide
  • famine
  • AIDS
  • people losing their homes and jobs

But if busting counterfeiters is your thing than by all means, have at it. I don't have to have anyone get on any of my bandwagons in order for me to support what I believe. You shouldn't either.

as much as I despise counterfeiting and illegal downloading of music/movies (do you do this?) I'd rather have the law enforcement authorities concentrating on dangerous criminals and finding lost children. I think the best way to combat counterfeiters is to educate people about the problem. If people stop buying fake crap, there won't be a market for it in the first place.

OP, your frustration may be warranted but it should not be toward any posters here. Perhaps you can channel your energies to the media or law enforcement authorities in your local area. As others have said, there are much bigger problems in the world so while doing this is a good faith effort, it might not enrage people just as it does you.

You can look into this organization here http://iacc.org/index.php - they work on stopping counterfeit sales online, I think. You could also try to dissuade people who purchase the bags by sharing information - loads of links are in the counterfeit information thread in the General handbags subforum.

Don't take these suggestions or what other posters have written as apathy; I think we all realize it's a David & Goliath type situation. but in your local area, your actions could make a difference.

are there actual stores selling fakes or are people personally buying loads of fakes and selling them to friends? if they're being sold in a store, i would contact the brand and let them know about the store selling counterfeits of their merchandise. they could probably do a lot more than an individual can.

I went to the closest mall today and was horrified when I saw this small kiosk store selling fake bags! There were Coach, Chanel, and Dolce & Gabana!! I walked out of that mall madder than a hornet! I wondered if I should report them! The manager of the mall, based on what I know about her, probably wouldn't care. The person running the little store would probably tell me that I was wrong, but I know better. There's no way that you can get brand new bags like those and those designers for under $100 and they were all priced at under $100. Maybe score a used Coach on ebay that way, but still risk it being a fake. Ugh! It disgusted me!
Ok- done venting.

One of our high-end malls has it. Right Near LV and Nordy's. Serriously. I don't know if they've gone away, but it is horrible. But I don't think they are offical "fakes" just "inspired" Therefore, you can't report them. Unless they are selling them as "coach" bags, "Chanel" Bags, or "Dolce & Gabana" Bags, then you can't report them. They may say the bags with the chanel logo are "Christy-Carly" Bags (just a random example) then they are "inspired". I know, fakes suck.

This happened at a mall near me a few years ago. I emailed the consumer reporter at a local TV station and they actually did a report on the kiosk, which was then shut down.

Maybe this is an option for you? Like you, the mall management was unresponsive to my calls.

The kiosk also has sunglasses, too. Does this sound similar? If I had had the time today I would've been having that guy pull each one of those bags out of the glass cases for "inspection" and try to get spy pics too, but I didn't have the time. I think I should go back a.s.a.p. and report the nasty crap!
