How to walk in high heels?

When I first started wearing them it took probably 2-3 months of wearing them 1-2 times a week (weekends) to get used to them. I started with 3" and soon found they were too low and I liked the look of higher shoes. 4&1/2" is my limit though, danced in a pair that high for 4 hours last night without problems

I think alot of it depends on your weight as compared to your foot size when it comes to comfort in heels. I was once a much bigger person (250+ pounds) and my foot was a size 6 - and I could not walk in heels at all. Even little ones killed my feet - and I even had a tough time balancing :push:. Now I'm 100 pounds, and my foot is more like a 5.5, and I have such a better time in heels  - and my balance is 10x better.

ITA! I've gained a lot of weight from medication over the past couple of years and it is extremely hard to walk in heels and even wedges when your heavier, I'm hoping that I'll lose some weight so I cant start wearing pretty heels and wedges! But even when I was skinnier it still hurt though.... I think some padding on shoe helps as well as practice, practice, practice!

I'm a total flats girl. I'm incredibly short (a little over 4'10) so when I wear heels, and "become" tall (at least in my sense of the word), I don't know what to do with myself. I can probably count the number of times I wear heels in a year on one hand. For some reason though, I still end up buying heels...it's a problem.

I am in love with a pair of 3 inch heels but can not seem to walk in them. The highest heels i have are 2 1/2 ". I really want to wear higher heels, are there any tricks to being able to walk in high heels? or is it just practicing walking around the house with high heels? would love to hear how you gals do it......

I've never worn heels until recently to some events. I was soo afraid to wear them. Thought I would look like a fool, or even fall. But I think I did ok. Practiced at home a lot just walking slowly and normal pace. Heels I had on were 3 1/2 inches. Those are the highest I'll ever go lol. I don't want to push my luck and break my ankles.

I sometimes see girls wearing heels that are like 4-5 inches, and they look soo funky walking. Like they don't even lift their legs up, just kind of drag their feet along. With tiny small steps. Makes me  inside.

When I started walking in heels, I got extra help w/ cushy insoles and even put cushy rubber thingies on the bottom of my shoes to prevent slipping. I don't do that anymore though, but they really helped in the beginning.
Now I can wear up to 3 1/2 inches w/o a problem, but I can't do 4+ inches unless they are platforms. I don't even try because my knee kind of hurts for some reason in that height.

....and I love them ! Messages of support/sharing or advice from the pros welcome !
When going shoe shopping I always look at them first...so beautiful.

Here are the problems :

-pain on the sole : I have tried high, and medium high heels and the sole of my foot (front part) is hurting so bad ! I can only walk/stand like 30 minutes. They are not bad quality around the 200$ price, but often I had 100$ more comfortable and durable...still not enough cushioning ?
I tried the little silicon cushions...nothing and it makes my shoe too small.

-balance : I lose balance if it´s stilettos (only stable on large 90´s style heels)
And I have a few stories that made my friends buy me a "how to walk with stilettos" book (stilettos are mandatory according to the author)......like missing stairs steps...I don´t really know how to walk, and in the street every stone, gap, grid, angled sidewalk is a potential risk for disaster !
maybe there is a secret ?;)
