How to walk in high heels.
1. Step with your heel down first, then let the sole follow quickly and smoothly.
2. Walk with your toes pointing straight ahead or as close to straight ahead as possible.
3. Swing your arms as you walk for balance.
4. Keep your legs straight, close and parallel.
5. Take smooth, even steps; consider shortening your stride a bit.
6. Avoid walking on ice, slush, mud, grass, sand, gravel and grated surfaces, on which you can slip or sink. When in doubt, take off your heels and carry them across such questionable surfaces in your bare feet.
7. When climbing stairs, make sure both sole and heel land together firmly and simultaneously on each step. When descending stairs, only the sole of the shoe needs to be planted on each step.
8. Remember - Learning to walk in high heels is mostly a matter of practice!
Here are some more tips on how to walk in high heels -
Also wear pantyhose (tights) with your high heels. It helps to get your legs support and makes the shoes feel better on the foot. Match black with black and sand or light, natural tones for all other colors. White with white is okay, but can make you look short.
Buy a high, chunky heel (4" or higher), it will help you get used to the height of a stiletto heel.
Even though they make your legs look good, heels can put a lot of stress on your ankles. Don't try to walk great distances in them, or you will surely pay for it. If you feel any pain in your ankle or feet, take your heels off ASAP.
If you need to learn how to walk in heels FAST--consider just walking on your tip-toes, then slowly adjust back to a regular way of walking.
If you start to fall in heels 3in or greater, let yourself fall. Unless you have something firm to grab, trying to regain your balance may cause you to break your ankle. When walking down stairs, make sure you stick close to a bannister so that you have something to grab onto should you trip.

6. Avoid walking on ice, slush, mud, grass, sand, gravel and grated surfaces, on which you can slip or sink. When in doubt, take off your heels and carry them across such questionable surfaces in your bare feet. No kidding!!!

I've gotten my stiletto heel stuck in a grate before. OUCH! You totally don't expect it and end up eating it. At least I did.. maybe i'm just that uncoordinated, haha.

Thanks for the tips!!

No, I'm not referring to the book :p but I would like to know how you girls manage to wear high heels (2 inch +) shopping or on a constant basis?

Is practice the key? Any other tips for me? I'm not very good with HIGH heels. Wish I was...:crybaby:

TIA

I think it is just a matter of getting used to them so yes, practice it key. I've been doing it for years and so heels are just second nature. 3-4 inch heels are now just second nature.

I think someone posted a thread on this before.

IMO firstly, it depends on the shoe. A good shoe is comfortable and try to pick the ones with thicker/bigger heels, like wedges or the pump kind of heels.

And try to start small, say with 2" kitten heels and then go up slowly.

You get used to it. It's nothing for me to wear three inch heels to work. Oh, sure, they stare, but who cares? They can't work it like me. LOL!

Definetly just practice. I think within a year or so I had it down well. Now it is like nothing to me though I can pretty much walk in anything. I would start with a chunky heel or wedges if you plan to wear them all day they are a lot more easy to walk in.

Definitely don't try to wear stilettos right away if you plan to walk 20 blocks! Thicker heels feel more sturdy. Platform shoes are also easier to walk in, they dont feel as high as they really are.

Heel grips and gel cushion inserts can also help.

And practice around the house. I've only been getting into super high heels this past year and I wear them around the house to break them in and to get used to them. If a neighbor sees me through a window vacuuming in high pumps, well, so what :roflmfao:

As i mentioned in a thread about some drop-dead gorgeous Louboutin's earlier tonight, I cannot walk in heels. Or anything for that matter. Picture a linebacker walking in some stilettos and you will see what it's like...

I own several pairs that I generally gaze upon, of course none are highend pairs, god forbid I destroy a fantastic pair of shoes learning.... but I have no clue how to doit.

I bought a pair of wedges....I have kitten heel "flats"....I have platform round toe's...seriously...can't figure it out. I look fine standing...but the movement I cannot do. Not to mention the AGONY my feet feel immediately. Specifically the ball of my foot, I seriously feel Im going to die.

I saw several pairs of Tahari and Ellen Tracy and various others I loved at the TJMaxx and Marshalls...couldn't bear to be attached to them since I knew I was dreamin'. Two female coworkers wear nothing but heels, daily, even in our "wear your underwear if you want" work environment. But Im the lone flip-flop and New Balance wearin fool.

So...how did you learn, how can I learn, and how can I make my feet not want to scream within 20 seconds?
