How to clean Tiffany's silver or other silver jewelry?

You could use SilverDip (smells evil though, and larger/rigid/awkwardly shaped pieces don't fit into the jar) There's also a way with washing soda and aluminium foil . Both methods are effective for ornate items with nooks and crannies which are hard to reach with a cloth or toothbrush but will remove any oxidation which contributes to the look of the piece, giving "light and shade".

A few points re that video:

- she's using WASHING soda crystals, not baking soda. Different stuff and it's very caustic, hence her wearing rubber gloves
- you should rinse your items afterwards to remove any residue, not simply polish with a cloth.

And yes in the UK we say al-you-MIN-ee-um, not al-OO-min-um :p

I clean mine with aluminum foil and baking soda.

Take a glass dish and line with aluminum foil. Place your jewelry inside the dish on the foil. Liberally sprinkle baking soda over the jewelry. Try and completely cover. Boil some water (either microwave or stove works) and pour over your jewelry in the glass dish. Let the solution sit for a good 10-15 minutes or so, adding more baking soda or water as needed.

Rinse off with warm water and dry with a soft cloth.

Process may need to be repeated a few times for heavily tarnished items, but I've found this works the best and is also the most cost effective since most households already carry the products needed!!

Good luck!!

ok so I wear my Tiffany's heart everyday and never had a problem. Last night I was going to school and work and I sprayed on one small spritz of perfume. Then I put on my necklace and this morning I wake up to this...

well I saved up for this necklace and its the only nice piece of jewelry I have and I don't want to ruin it. I found jewelry cleaner in my moms bathroom but the front of my charm has the blue enamel. will i ruin the enamel cleaning it?

(cleaner says to let it sit in it for 30 seconds before scrubbing)

That's tarnish (can be caused by exposure to air, sweat, or chemicals), so you need a silver polishing cloth. That will make it look good as new. The jewelry cleaner you used is probably for dirt and grease. Just be careful when you polish the silver part not to rub the cloth on the enamel -- while silver polishing cloths make silver look bright and shiny, it can ruin stones and finishes on other materials.

^^ Exactly.... sounds like you used jewelry cleaner. Try looking for something that is marked especially for silver. And if you are uncomfortable cleaning it yourself - ask for help. That stuff is pretty powerful!
