How old must one be to wear this bag?

Thanks for the feedback.
When a young teen, I'd notice "old" women wearing out-of-style things and I'd swear that would never happen to me. That I would always keep current and know the difference. Ha!
Well, now that I'm "old" I've discovered I can't tell the difference. My DIL bought me blue nail polish to update my look. She also informed me that my son's dress pants were being replaced with trendier slim fitting pants. I thought his full cut, hardly-used pants looked good on him! Ditto with his square toe dress shoes.

Yikes, it's happened! I've crossed the bridge to the other side of the generation gap! The kingdom of Oldem sucks.

I don't walk malls wearing polyester jogging suits (yet) but I might be wearing this era's equivalent, for all I know.

So I've lost confidence in my discernment and needed a little feedback on this bag. I worried it may look a bit like a shiney embossed bag from the 80s. Do you think this bag will still look smart 5 -10 yrs from now?

Oh. And in case you're wondering, I'm 61.

This is so funny, I'm 39 and just hired a 61 year old interior designer to make my overly traditional home more current, so age is nothing but a thing. I'm also at the age where I want to be current, definitely not trendy, but modern! To me, your bag looks pretty classic and if blue nail polish looks good with your skin tone then rock it, it looks horrible on me! Super skinny pants for guys are TRENDY and look terrible on some but ok on others. Now a slimmer more modern cut, sure, that is current. Frankly, I'm relying on experts lately to help me and I'm totally fine with that.

Mrs. Z, I tried but just couldn't wear bright blue on my fingernails. I polished my toenails and wore sandals the next time I saw her. She was thrilled. My son's pants turned out beautifully, slimmer profile but not skinny. He has tall thin legs so it worked well.

Do you think the bag looks worth $1,700?
Or, is there a better choice?

So for that price it's obviously not croc, fake embossed? doesn't seem worth it to me....anything else you have your eye on??

"Worth it" is so subjective. If you love it, I guess it's worth it. But it won't hold its value resale.

There are more recognizable / on trend / covetable brands that have great bags in this price range. Armani is better loved for its clothes than leather goods.

Maybe take a little while to look around the forum or in stores. You may find something you like even better.

I didn't associate this bag with an age but I did think it looked dated. There was a thread on the Longchamp forum a couple months ago about certain types of croc looking dated and I think this falls into that category. Outside of that though, I'm with you, I can't really tell if something is trendy or not unless it is really obvious like mini bags and overly embellished bags.
2cello, you know something, you're right. I ought to have used the term dated rather than old.
I don’t mean to belabor the point but if you're up to it, would you indicate what makes this bag dated? Shape? Texture?...

I'm not qualified to be talking trendy but FWIW, I think it is mainly the shiny, large scale, croc print. This came up in a discussion of longchamp's Roseau croc print bags which have a similar finish. They were determined to be dated.

If you look at, say, saint laurent croc prints, they are a slightly smaller scale.

Got it. Thanks!

Thanks for your advice. I've been shopping online/forums bc I live in a small town. So hard to not see items IRL. From what I've read here, not too many bags hold their value. Chanel is too expensive and the online pre-loved market seems rife with fakes and thieves.

Sparkletastic, any suggestions? Nothing over 2k please, preferably 1,500 or under?

I love the bag, I think it's gorgeous. Size of croc print....hmmmm...so who is to say that saint laurent's smaller scale won't be outdated next year? I say you find a bag you like the look and functionality of and buy it and rock it with your blue nail polish!!
I have to agree with Hobbsy. Trends come and go. I really think it's the overall look that makes something dated.

Sure! I love hunting bags. What are you looking for? Convertible satchel? Crossbody? Size? Material? Anything else? New only or is preloved and option. Anything you don't want?
