Yes it’s definitely more than 20, I see that now! I think some of them I have in storage and some are with consignment stores, which makes me forget they exist. Out of sight, out of mind!

Ten. It’s been a very long journey, up & down several times. I’d like to reduce it more but, in reality, don’t see that happening….although I’m not completely eliminating the possibility. After all, I never thought I’d get down to ten.

I don't have to be in a hurry to reduce the number. If I just stop buying, eventually the number will drop as things wear out, get stained or I get tired of them.

Recently I was sort of stalking a well-dressed lady of a certain age on the UES because she had a very elegant bag that I did not recognize. I sidled up and asked her about it and we had a brief chat about bags (hers was unbranded from a "mom and pop" store). She asked me how many bags I have and I told her. She said "you're crazy to buy so many bags." LOL. I explained that I didn't buy them all at once and some I have had for many years. Nevertheless her verdict went unchanged.
The bag she was carrying was olive green, not a color I have ever owned in my lifetime of hundreds of bags in and out of my collection. I'm guessing her number would have to be rather less than 10, and she must be a fan of green to devote one of those slots to such a specific color.

When I first joined the forum and only owned one bag at a time, I saw a woman with a green bag. I remember thinking how odd that she chose green rather than something neutral. I don't think I could fathom at the time owning multiple bags in a variety of colors.
I'm casting my mind back, back, back into the past when my lifestyle, budget, and youth prevented me from having and knowing what I do now.
Black and red were my steadies. I don't think I owned more than 3 bags at a time for many years (long ago!).
I think I have owned three green bags ever - two kelly green at different eras that I think were mostly trotted out around the holidays. A couple of years ago I fell in love with H Bambou and had a So Kelly (loved the color, but the bag made me nuts).
My current collection features mostly..... black and red. LOL.
Green isn't my favorite color but I still own several! I have more blue than anything else.
I believe I have 24. When I think about it and look it doesn’t feel like that many. I do have a few I never use which I need to sell but otherwise they truly do all have a purpose. I think this biggest thing is that I carry different bags for different seasons. There’s always a larger black and a smaller black that I’m rotating between. However, in the fall there’s an additional mixed in and in the spring an additional two, in the summer there’s a few extras add in because I carry so much more. Same with winter where I have a red bag and two wine colored bags. I think if I could minimize the seasonal bags to just one that’s probably the best way I could minimize. Buuuuut. I also have three nice clutches I very rarely use but when I do use them they are just my favorite things in this world.
Okay maybe I can’t downsize after all lol. I do think ridding myself of at least 4 is a good idea though.
