How many bags do we really need?

I used to own one bag, and carry it everyday, so I'd say, when it comes to need, one is all that's needed. I'd allow for a clutch for going out occasion. So two is what's needed at most by most women.

I'm the queen of the minimalists and I posted a lot in Loquita's thread about purging in pursuit of one bag.

For me it's about moderation. If I have too few bags, I feel deprived. If I have too many, I get overwhelmed by the clutter and having too many choices.

Right now 5 is the right number.

Great thread. I haven't posted here in a while but this is how I feel! I'm trying to be good by avoiding the Purse Forum like the plague-lol! It's working!! My last big splurge was in early March when I used my tax return to purchase a 2006 NWT chocolate Chloe Paddington on the *bay for a steal. It is just one of those bags I've obsessed over ever since they came out in '05. I was so happy to finally have one of my dream bags in my possession....I thought, I'm going to use this bag EVERY DAY. I used it for one day-right after getting it. I wondered...was it the thrill of the 'chase'? It sat up on my shelf and suddenly I was starting to have buyers remorse. Turns out it wasn't buyers remorse...3 days ago I switched to my Paddy and it really hit me that I truly do LOVE this bag and want to fully enjoy it without the pursuit of the next bag. I wondered what was wrong with me??? I think seeing it sitting on the shelf not being used is what makes the buyers remorse sink in. I realized that I just want to use and enjoy every bag that I have. I don't think I could have just one bag, but I certainly don't want more than 9 (no double digits for me either!). I currenly have 6 bags that I'm keeping and selling 3 that I won't miss. The fewer the better IMO. Single digits is the way to go!! :D

LOVE this POST!!!!!!

You may be onto something here........."fully enjoy ONE bag w/o the pursuit of the next bag"

I find myself in a very similar dilemma...........

How many fishing poles does my husband need? HA!

I've slowed down a lot in buying bags. I have what I need, I have bags I don't want to part with, and I know what I like (so that narrows my choices anyway). I've decided not to force myself to purge right now, though. I'm just not ready.

Need and want is a blurry line. I think honestly I would only NEED one bag. I would use it until it wears out. Possibly 2 so I would have them for various seasons. That being said I normally keep around 10. Although I would love more I don't want any just sitting there.

well right now i'm finishing up school and really only need 2 bags. lately i've been carring my LV mono speedy as my everyday bag. i can dress it up or dress it down. then i have a big coach tote for school. other then that i really dont need anything else right now. i have a few stashed in my closet (another school tote, small handbag, etc) but i usually have a purpose for them (beach bag, overnight bag, etc). So really for me i'm good with 2

This is me. :smile1:

The fact that I have all these bags that I don't use is stressing me out, so purging is what I need now.

This made me smile!

What I'm also finding is that although I buy what I like, I only use very few of what I own on a daily basis.

Before I know it, months have passed, my tastes have changed......I might never have worn a particular bag I purchased in the past (but I have it!), & so I let it go.......re-home it.......so what was the point of buying it in the first place??

See my point?

Yes I do. Completely. But I have bags that I bought 15 years ago that I am re-discovering. They sat waiting, but their time for use was coming. What goes around comes around, and everything old is new again!

Yes, true. It gets a little dangerous. I've gone through throwing everything/selling everything spurts and then I've been pretty unhappy with myself for dumping things I really loved. Throwing stuff out can get frighteningly invigorating and then before you know it, you're sitting on a crate in the living room and your husband is saying "But I kind of liked our sofa"...

Just a warning...be sure before you start dumping.
