Reviving an old thread. Just wondering if this is normal wear & tear. Bought a Blue Paradis Epsom B35 late March this year direct from the store & after using it twice I noticed some corner wear. Didn't think much about it until I had another closer look after using it less than 6x. Was shocked to see there's some wear over the piping & it kept spreading up with each use & on removing the twilly, it looks like the layer of paint has chipped off the handle. I continued wrapping it with twilly but panicked when it kept getting bigger.

I treated the bag just the same as my other H bags (but they were in Clemence, Togo, grain dh/swift) & all of them are still in great condition. I've used an Epsom silk'in wallet for more than a year & no issues with scratches or paint peeling. I know Epsom especially in big bags gets corner wear easily but should it be that quick to spread up the piping? & I've never had any issues with my bag handles before. I don't know if I've scratched it but the other handle is intact & I've always kept my nails short (for work).

I decided to take the B back to the store when I noticed they were all getting bigger (even bigger than in the pic). I said to the SA if this is normal, I'm happy to wait 'till it badly needs a SPA before sending it off. He didn't think it looked like normal wear & tear & so sent it to another state for opinion. He asked me whether to send the clochette too & when we looked at it closely, it had a circular whitish spot similar to the piping on the lengthy leather part. I don't wear moisturiser or perfume. The SA rubbed the area & it didn't look like it was stained by something. I should've taken a photo of it as it looked unusual.

So I haven't heard from them since dropping the bag off late April. When I asked, the staff assumed the bag has been sent to Paris. I just asked them for an update today & she said it may take up to 4 months to hear back from them.

Having spent so much on a bag, you wouldn't expect to pay few hundred extra to repair something you just used less than a month.

So the wait continues....

This look serious
Very unusual for epsom
You should let your store in charge view

Wow, that sucks. You are right, it looks like the dye didn't adhere to the leather like it should. What's more frustrating is them not giving you appropriate updates. That is just unacceptable. I would ask your SM to get in touch with whomever is in charge wherever the bag is, and get you an update.

Good luck, I am sure they will take care of it, but probably haven't gotten back to you, because they are concerned maybe that whole batch didn't have the dye adhere correctly? Who knows, but irregardless, you should be kept in the loop.

Good luck!

sorry to see this..that's definitely not normal corner wear. looks like a defect? i also have an epsom b35 that showed corner wear very quickly after only a few times but nothing like this.

That doesn't look normal. I have several epsom bags and none look like that.

Omg speedy raven I'm so sorry to hear this and see the pics!! I have some corner wear on my Epsom B30 but not nearly like this and after years of use... I hope they can resolve this soon or replace the bag for you!!

Oh thanks so much for everyone's input & concerns. I initially thought I was being silly & a perfectionist but I feel better now. The skunk problem is well known but I've never heard of colour chipping off.
It's good that I have my lovely tpf community to share my (first world) woes with. No one else would understand.

I hope they're not going to charge me for repair. I'd rather get another bag in a different blue (or pink/red (wishful thinking) & different leather).

No way, if they try to charge you for this repair I would really put my foot down speedyraven. That sort of wear just isn't acceptable for a few months' use. I don't think they will though, the store is normally very good at handling these situations. Ideally they will give you a new bag entirely. I have to take one of my CDCs into the store in the next few weeks  The palladium has worn off in a large section and it looks terrible. All the bronze looking metal underneath can be seen. Also one of my bags just recently got back from repair in Paris (due to a defect and they didn't charge me). I think you will be fine  it's just awful when this stuff happens, especially when we pay so much for the items!!

And after your experience, and several others, I am definitely going to stay away from H bags in Epsom! They just seem to be a lot of hassle compared to ones in togo and clemence!

Thanks Marbella8 :) That's exactly what DH said about the after-sales service being surprisingly poor. I've returned few things before (perfume nozzle thing that kept springing out, scarf that had makeup stain & an enamel that had string of metal under the paint) & had no issues getting it replaced. Granted those are smaller items. I had to wait a few weeks for the bangle but the SA kept me up to date.

It's probably because the SM was away at the time & it was handled by an SA who was leaving the store. But I expected him to notify or 'handover' to someone else (my main SA has left months ago & no one has formally adopted me haha). The problem was he said the bag will be sent interstate & I will hear from them in 1-2 weeks.

When I spoke to the SM close to two weeks, she didn't even know about it. I emailed another time & she still said no news. I asked the SM several weeks later & got the same answer. Then yesterday the 2nd in charge (who knew nothing at all about it) said it may take 4 months. I have a feeling the senior staff including the SM think it's just normal wear & tear & possibly think I'm over-reacting (as they haven't seen the bag or the photos). So DH wasn't really happy.

I told DH that it feels like I bought a car but don't have access to it & I still have to use the bus. God knows for how long.

I'll give it another month plus & if they're still nonchalant about updating, I'll show them the photos.

I am curious what several other experiences you are referring to? Is there a thread I totally missed on here? I hadn't heard of anything like this in epsom? Thanks!

Speedyraven- I completely agree with you, give it a couple of weeks and then, go in at a time you know the SM is there, take the photos and drop-off slip and explain that frankly this is not acceptable for any store, particularly Hermes, and that you would appreciate an update.
Don't be shy about it, it is your right, you were sold a defective bag, honestly, I am pretty sure this would qualify as a lemon, under lemon law, although I am not a litigator, lol!
don't worry too much though, it'll get resolved :smile1:

I know several people who have had bad experiences with Epsom, or who've said they would never purchase an Epsom bag again. On and off the purse forum. I think if you looked through a number of different threads (even the start of this one) on this site you would notice Epsom isn't one of the most favored leathers, and there are many threads that talk about its pros and cons. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. There are many people who don't like clemence and box for their ability to respectively slouch and show scratches, and that's fine too....

Oh yes, I completely agree there are advantages and disadvantages to every leather. But this defect is definitely something abnormal and outside of my understanding of what any leather could do (basically looks like peeling of color creeping in different directions on a bag)! I thought I missed some other terrible incident with Epsom recently...I am glad there isn't anything like that...but am still troubled by the strange happening on the Blue Paradise.

Did the store end up replacing or fixing your epsom B speedyraven? I hope everything turned out the way you wanted it to :hugs::flowers:

Thanks for checking up on me [emoji4] yes I received a phone call from the SM on 22nd June that Hermes Paris deemed it faulty & H will cover all expenses. Replacement bag arrived on 6th of August. So about 2 months plus to wait for their verdict.

I could feel a difference between the two. The faulty one felt like it was painted over (odd texture when you run through it) & the replacement looks like the leather was born to be blue (haha) & a bit more vibrant. I was so paranoid that I will get the same problem but it's still in perfect condition even after using it more than the faulty bag so I'm glad I posted here & didn't blame myself!

Thank you for all the experts & H-lovers here for sharing their opinion & advice [emoji8]
