How Does Chanel After-Sales Bag Repair Work?

I have a workhouse mini backpack from Chanel I’ve often used for 3 years. My SA recommended I repair the straps since many of my stitches have ripped over the years (see pic below)

the After Sales Service SA recommended that I replace the chain handle, the chain braid, and restitch the backpack straps. I agreed with all her recommendations. I also asked her if they could condition my leather but she said they don’t offer that kind of service (aw well). Fast forward 3 weeks and this is what I received in the mail

I am extremely happy with the results!!!! My workhorse bag is back!!

Hi everyone, apologies if there is a better thread to have written this in.

I am based in Sydney, Australia and have just sent my M/L Classic Flap SHW Caviar in to be repaired. I bought my bag on the 7th of March at the Westfield Sydney Chanel store for my 30th bday present. I noticed the leather around the stitching on the flap on both sides (more so the right hand side) was cracking. Seemed like maybe the stitching was too tight and the leather around it cracked? I have since been into the store I bought it from and left my bag there to be assessed by a "specialist". They have rung me to advise that what (they think) has happened is that the stitching has come loose, hence why you can see grey (where the leather "cracked") they said that they will get it restitched which should fix the problem. I am happy to let them fix this bag and am crossing all my fingers and toes that this will be the end of it however, I'm just worried that it'll come back looking the same and I won't be happy with it. Has anyone experienced getting a new bag if the repairs arent good enough or up to scratch. SA said it isn't necessarily a fault and comes with wear and tear but I don't think wear and tear is even a reason since I've only had it for 2 months and have hardly worn the bag. They have been lovely instore thus far so don't want to kick up a stink yet. Does anyone have any experiences or tips? Has this stitching happened to anyone also and is it really wear and tear? especially after 2 months?

I have only ever had one experience with sending in my bag for repair. It was a brand new bag, and after wearing it one time, the stitching holding the two ends of the leather strip in the chain both came undone, causing the ends to pull away from the strap. Brought it back to the same location I bought it from, was told 6-8 weeks, it took 3 months, but got it back all repaired and my bag is in good condition (no scuffs or scratches). Even though I did not receive any updates until it was time to pick it up, overall happy with the experience. Tip: I just discovered after-the-fact that if you log into your Chanel account, you can actually see the history of your repairs (although mine still says in-process, lol).

QUESTION: Do we have to go through the same location we bought the bag from or the same SA, or can we go to any Chanel location to submit our item for repair? I bought my bag from an SA I don't know from a different state, and I see there is some silver showing through on my Reissue "So Black" chain compared to other parts of the strap. It is still within the return period, I have not used it, and if I cannot find a replacement for exchange I was thinking of bringing it into my local boutique for repair. Does anyone know if this is okay, and does anyone know if this will be a free repair since it's new?

The repair will be free if it’s within the 1st year of purchase and the damage is not through wear and tear. I did a phone order on my classic flap from Saks NYC and dropped it at a Chanel SF boutique and they accepted it. Dropped it off mid June, my SA said it’ll take up to 12 weeks for repair. :oh: I had to repair the hardware (male part of the turnknob). I wish it wouldn’t take so long since they are sending it to east coast and not to Paris. Definitely no lockdown in the US now.

I just left my 10 year old classic flap for changing of the turnlock and it's still in Paris - my SA said about 3 weeks and it costs me 95 EUR
Price sounds about right. My SA said it’s $115 USD for turn lock, but mine is taking up to 3 months? They’re not even sending it back to Paris, but to another state in US :confused1: Not sure why it’s taking so long just to replace.

Ahh, so far I haven’t had I it returned. Usually in France everyone is off in August so I expect to get it back in September. I am gutted I didn’t ask for the chain hardware to be replaced, as I worry it might be lighter (due to wear) in comparison to the new turnlock.

I asked my SA how long it’ll take to replace the hardware in addition to the turn lock and he says it’ll take up to 1 year! I don’t know if I could wait that long…

Hi, I am also seeing these “grey” “cracks”/“tearing” around the stitching on the outer corners of my Boy. I have had the bag for a while but baby her and haven’t used her that many times that would have caused wear and tear. Personally, I think the stitching was too tight rather than too loose…
Please do update us when you get your classic back! She’s beautiful!

Hi! Did you get your bag already? I left my tc jumbo to repair 3 weeks ago. They only said that due to COVID it might take a bit longer than usual. Mine had a little tear on the leather.

yes I did - it took a month. I only changed my lock and it came a bit squished.. it is not straight. I am not very impressed. You should take it back to your SA, this is absurd!

Just realized my message sounded like they did the tear on my bag I meant I took it to repair because of the tear. It’s gonna cost me 65€ and they said it’s like new after the repair.
I’m happy to hear you repair took only a month but sorry to hear it wasn’t perfect.
