How Does Chanel After-Sales Bag Repair Work?

Hi everyone!

I'm getting a bag repaired by Chanel for the first time so hoping to get some insight from those who have experience with Chanel After-Sales!

Earlier this month I noticed some issues with the stitching and leather strap of my classic flap even though I hadn't used the bag and bought it in mid-September. I was initially hoping to exchange it and went to 3 different Chanel boutiques but they all did not have the flap combo I wanted in stock (black caviar with GHW). Since I was close to the 30 day exchange deadline, I figured I would send the bag to After-Sales for a repair, which the Chanel SA and specialist I was talking to said would be complementary. They submitted a service request for "Chain/Handle/Shoulder Strap or Tab - Replace Leather Tie" and "Stitching - Simple Stitching" on 10/10, gave me a copy of the receipt, and said they would call me when they hear back from After-Sales. Since then, I haven't received any emails or calls from the boutique.

I understand repairs currently can take up to 6-8 weeks because of the pandemic, but does Chanel ever provide updates or at least a confirmation that After-Sales has received your bag for repair? They gave me a physical copy of my receipt but no email confirmation even though I received both a paper and email receipt back in September when I purchased my bag - is this normal? I also noticed the "Deposit of Product" section in my copy of the receipt is blank - does this section need to be filled out in order for me to pick up my bag? Any insights or tips on Chanel's repair process would be greatly appreciated! Also curious to hear how the results were for those who have had their bags repaired by Chanel!

I’d like to hear answers as well. I left my reissue last month in the boutique to be shipped to Paris. Now I’m anxious because there’ll be another lockdown in France so what will happen to the repairs?
will only the boutiques be closed and services still available?
according your questions: where are you located? I’m in Germany and I didn’t get any confirmation via mail etc, just the after sales receipt you’ll have to hand out when picking up your bag. Nothing more was needed last time I got a bag repaired. Basically I dropped it at the boutique without card and dustbag, got the repair receipt with what has to be done and got a call 4 weeks later to pick it up. That was in 2016 and they did a great job at replacing the leather strap in the chain.

Last year I took a bag to get repaired took almost a month. I didn't hear anything from them one day I got an email that my bag was ready.

Good point about the lockdown! I would think that the boutiques and factories will close again, therefore delaying repair services - similar to how previous lockdowns earlier this year delayed and limited boutique inventory.

Thank you for sharing your experience with your previous bag repair! Sounds like the process was the same, so I probably just need to be a little more patient and wait until they call. I wish there was a tracking number or some way for us to check on the status of our repair requests! I am based in the US but not sure whether my bag will be repaired in the US or France. I thought that bags being refurbished get sent back to France while smaller repairs get done regionally, but I could be wrong. Hopefully those who have received repairs from Chanel this year will chime in!

@mrslv86 Thank you for this insight! Do you mind if I ask where you are located/where you dropped your bag off and what kind of repair(s) you had done? And were you pleased with the results?

I am in south Florida, dropped it off to bal harbour location. Yes I was pleased with the results I had a chained replaced. I have 2 handbags that I would like to be cleaned and brought back to life. I'm thinking about sending them to leather surgeons. They repair high end bags.

Thank you for your response! Glad you were happy with the repair work done! I’ve read some bad experiences with Chanel after-sales/repairs on TPF and was getting worried. I’ve heard great things about leather surgeons and have definitely considered sending my older bags to them for a touch-up as well!

I had the chain of my Boy bag repaired and it took about 2 months. It was kind of frustrating because Chanel didn't repair the chain at all when I first left the bag with them and it looks like the craftsman just inspected it. Ugh. They finally fixed it on the 2nd try. Be sure to inspect your bag and make sure they've done the necessary repair before you leave the boutique!

As for updates, you can email the after sales person who helped you throughout the repair process.

hi, I just dropped off my chanel wallet on chain to the Nyc boutique and hey they emailed me 3 weeks later and asked for my mailing address to ship it back complimentary. It arrived in 2 days. I was really impressed with the whole thing. All I got was a receipt when I dropped off the bag. The leather had rubbed off somehow from the bag, don’t know how but they touched it up. It’s not perfect still Bc I Know where it was touched up but it’s better than pre repair And they were really nice about it.

Oof! Sorry you had to go through that and thanks so much for the tip!! I would be frustrated too if I left my bag with the boutique for an extended period of time only to have it inspected!

Thank you for sharing your experience and glad to hear it went smoothly! One of my repairs is supposed to be for the leather strap, as a piece of leather had also fallen off and some areas on the sides were frayed so I wonder if they will just touch up those spots or replace the leather completely.

hi! I am from south florida too. I have issues with my classic flap small gh chain but it is beyond the returning window. Do you think they’ll still accept it for replacement or exchange? 3544F332-546C-4450-A2B6-40645D215205.jpeg 3544F332-546C-4450-A2B6-40645D215205.jpeg

I had a chance to personally take my unused neon pink patent WOC for repair last year in Paris. It was a 2017 WOC model. It had some cracks on the interior leather along with the stitching. I was told to wait for about 2 weeks for an update regarding the repair through email. After two weeks no email was sent so I emailed the customer service person who assisted me at the boutique and she quickly replied that it was just sent to the workshop. I waited for more than 2 weeks and asked for an update and she replied the next day that she was informed by the workshop that my handbag could not be repaired. And they are willing to offer a store credit that will be valid for a year and can only be used in any Chanel boutique in France(except department stores & CDG airport). To proceed with the store credit they were actually asking for a copy of my purchase receipt.Told them that I don't have it since it was a birthday present. So she then asked me if I know where was the bag purchase, I told her that I think it was from a Chanel boutique in Dubai since the one who gifted me that bag is from that country. Luckily she didn't ask for more information and told me if I can agree with a store credit of EURO 1850 which is under French value. I was actually happy because I really didn't like the bag and was able to use the store credit to buy my Jumbo CF.
