How Does Chanel After-Sales Bag Repair Work?

I had a chance to personally take my unused neon pink patent WOC for repair last year in Paris. It was a 2017 WOC model. It had some cracks on the interior leather along with the stitching. I was told to wait for about 2 weeks for an update regarding the repair through email. After two weeks no email was sent so I emailed the customer service person who assisted me at the boutique and she quickly replied that it was just sent to the workshop. I waited for more than 2 weeks and asked for an update and she replied the next day that she was informed by the workshop that my handbag could not be repaired. And they are willing to offer a store credit that will be valid for a year and can only be used in any Chanel boutique in France(except department stores & CDG airport). To proceed with the store credit they were actually asking for a copy of my purchase receipt.Told them that I don't have it since it was a birthday present. So she then asked me if I know where was the bag purchase, I told her that I think it was from a Chanel boutique in Dubai since the one who gifted me that bag is from that country. Luckily she didn't ask for more information and told me if I can agree with a store credit of EURO 1850 which is under French value. I was actually happy because I really didn't like the bag and was able to use the store credit to buy my Jumbo CF.

What a great outcome!! Glad you were able to get the bag you actually wanted! It’s been over 2 months since I dropped off my bag for repair so I checked in with my SA to see if I could get some sort of update or ETA but at this point I don’t think I would mind just getting store credit

Yes I just got lucky, perhaps they didn't have the same materials of that certain bag anymore since it was a seasonal collection. And since they offered store credit there was no waiting time for the repair. But imagine It took almost a month for the whole process with the bag already in Paris and that was even before this covid pandemic. But I'm just glad that I don't have to wait longer for a repair. With the situation seems everything is going slow. But I really hope you'll get update with your repair pretty soon. Happy Holidays!

The only repair i did took 9 months, i sent in jan 2020 and after a lot of chasing, got it back, bruised and scuffed in sep 2020.. They offered to touch up and spa the bag but i was beyond furious.

Defi because of the covid situation

Omg that is horrible I’m so sorry you went through that  I would have been furious as well! Did they offer any explanation as to why/how your bag got scuffed? Since they were responsible for the additional damage, I feel like they should have offered you a replacement or store credit

Thank u, they did not and ecen said my bag was originally like that? Thats ridiculous. I told them if my bag had looked like that, i would not have bothered to pay for new leather handles!

I took my jumbo flap in at the end of August because one of the stitches for the double flap became undone. They said it usually takes 4-6 weeks but due to the pandemic it will take 8-10 weeks (I asked if they send it out and they said yes). It was free of charge which I was surprised because I got it from Europe in 2016. It came back around mid-October but I neglected to check my email so I called the store. The store said yes my bag is ready, so I went in towards the end of October and got the bag. They had it completely wrapped in paper, which they let me unwrap to inspect the bag. The actually replaced the stitches on both sides of the flap. They also gave me a shopping bag and a black dust bag. All in all the repair process for me was pretty smooth!

It really depends on the nature of the repair in terms of cost. I had to fill out a paper with my information and they filled out information on the bag like the serial number and the item code. Funny thing is when I went in to pick it up they mixed up my name and brought a small bag (for like a wallet), and I was like huh? But the SA just mixed up my name lol.

That is awesome!! How were you able to tell that they had replaced the stitches? One of my repair requests was two loose stitches near the corner of my flap. I just picked up my bag a few days ago and it did seem like they tried to tighten the stitches but they are still not flat against the bag. Considering they had fixed the other issue with my bag and how long this process took though, I’m just grateful to have my bag back with no repair horror story! Also, happy new year!!

Happy New Year to you too! Before I took it in, the stitches on the double flap were "flat" and not that "thick" thread. The flat stitch just means they didn't use another stitch to stitch it all the way around. Whereas in the thick, there's another thread wrapped all the way around to make it look like one large thread. So once I got it back I noticed that the threads were now both the "thick" thread!! I'll attach some pictures below to show you what I'm talking about:
First picture is of the "flat" stitch and the second pictures is of the "thick" stitch

Oh wow! Had no idea there were two types of stitching for these bags - thank you so much for sharing! Your attention to detail is very impressive!!

Hi..I need some advice on how to repair this velvet boy that was redyed from pink to black.
The black leather strap is starting to fade off showing the pink underneath.
Do u think I can bring to Chanel to change the leather strap to a black one? Will they do refurbishment for a recoloured bag?

Hi! Chanel policy is that if it's outside of the 5 year mark from the original date of purchase or you don't have the original receipt , they will not refurbish or refinish. This was to prevent preloved sales.
They will repair though for a cost. Like a broken chain or something.

However If you do have the original receipt, once a bag has been dyed, it's no longer deemed authentic so they may not take it in.

You can try leather surgeon or leather pros

I bought this preloved and I really love the velvet feel.. but the flaky leather strap is making me think twice about keeping the bag. I thought if I can send to Chanel to change out the leather strap to a black one at a cost, I could keep using the bag with no worries. Thankful for your advice.. save me the trip to Chanel since it will be rejected.

I would return it if you can. Yes, I have heard dyed bags have a stiff/flaky feeling . Not the smooth leather feeling. Plus the problem with velvet bags is the wear on the velvet. The more you wear it, some of the areas will wear out and turn lighter. potentially the pink will show through there as well.

I highly recommend LeatherPros. They corrected a pink metallic Chanel that was botched by LS. Was dyed to black to correct the work. The black started to peel. Sent to LeatherPros and they did a beautiful job! Spend your money wisely!
